Mirror's Edge leading on the PS3

This just makes me so happy, After a slow couple of news days it seems that we have a little bit of excitement coming back into the industry.

Ray Maguire, from the black team, has been chatting to Videogamer.com about how he feels the PS3 now has a large enough install base for third party developers to start using it as a lead platform.

Well that’s not interesting, however he goes on to take a unsubtle swipe at the competition.

Apparently he believes that third party developers will find it easier to develop on the more powerful platform, the PS3, and then just remove functionality for the consoles which can’t quite handle it… or in other words gimp the games for the 360.

What’s so interesting about this? Well according to Videogamer DICE is using the PS3 as the lead platform for Mirror’s Edge. Which means we have a perfect test subject to verify Ray’s claim, if Mirror’s Edge looks and works better on the PS3 then he has a point and we can lay this silly war to rest, However if the 360 version looks better he is going to have quite the time explaining himself.

Nothing like putting a noose around your neck, so bets anyone on whether or not Mirror’s Edge is going to be better on the PS3 or not?

As lead on PS3, I cant see it being the better looking game on the Xbox 360. We know that on when it comes to most games, the lead platform is the better looking one. But you are right the noose thing.

I honestly think that for developers now-a-days it doesn’t make sense to vary how your games feel on either console. that’s why so much effort has gone into making games like FC2 identical on both platforms, if there is any improvement I don’t think it’ll be much, not cause they can’t do it but because it doesn’t make business sense to develop a product to beat another version of your own? wow I confuse myself sometimes.

So basically I see it as visually the ps3 might scrap a win, I’m still worried about frame rate issues, control wise I don’t think there will be any problems with either console, and in terms of gameplay well that’s where it’ll really have to shine won’t it?

Having seen and played the demo on both the PS3 and Xbox my first impressions were the graphics, atleast the shading looked a lot better on the PS3.

If you have the technical tools at your disposable we may be able to come to a long term agreement…

Its not like this game is a polygon pusher. In fact its rather bland. Just the Gameplay keeps this title from sinking
Stoopid. The only game that has shown me how good the ps3 can be is Killzone 2.

i second that. mgs4 is by far the most visually astounding game i’ve played to date.
but when it comes to multiplatform games, the difference is marginal at best. i fail to see why 1% or 2% diff in quality makes or breaks a game on a console.
ultimately, imo, gameplay makes or breaks a game… the visuals just add eye candy
    moot point for me.

Here is another article from Eurogamer favouring the PS3…

The new-look Team Ninja is backing PS3 following the departure of former leader Tomonobu Itagaki.

“For the PlayStation 3, we do not believe that we’ve seen the fullest of its potential from any standpoint: from a developer standpoint, and also a consumer standpoint,” Yosuke Hayashi, the new head of the Ninja Gaiden IP, told Gamasutra.

“There is greater potential, and we see that possibility the most in the PlayStation 3. It’s going to be up to us developers and Sony to make sure that that does happen.

“For any developer that’s been working on all of the platforms that are available today, I think they would agree that the PlayStation 3 is the most powerful system out there,” he added.

Traditionally, the developer – a subsidiary of Tecmo – has favoured Microsoft and the Xbox formats, having only recently deviated with Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3, and Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword on DS.

However, leather jacket and sunglass-wearing studio founder Itagaki famously resigned in June, leaving plenty of opportunity for reorganisation and refocus in his wake.

Hitoshi Hasegawa, who’s now in charge of the Dead or Alive fighting series, also sees plenty of possibility in the Wii.

“Maybe not Team Ninja specifically, but with Tecmo as a whole, we’ve been supporting the platform from the very beginning,” said Hasegawa.

“Internally at the company, we have a lot of knowledge, and I think we’ve mastered most of the components to make a very compelling and entertaining product using the console.

“We will continue to work in that path,” he added. “We have a lot of Wii console fans within the company, so hopefully there’s something that we can work on.”

However, none of this is to say Microsoft will be kicked to the curb, as Team Ninja continues to applaud the “all-round integrated aspects and elements” of the Xbox 360.

My teachers at school told me I have a lot potential and can be anything I want.
Guess what I didnt become the President of a multimillion dollar company, I became a Network Engineer. Potential means nothing. Its Results that coint.
