Games replace Movies as favourite, so says NPD

So I think Lazygamer has had a total of 4 articles on different movie companies joining the gaming world now. We have Jerry Bruckheimer, Steven Spielberg, Legendary Pictures and now apparently Ubisoft wants to break into the special effects business. Crazy right? Looks like gaming has now become the flavour of the month! Are you puzzled as to why?

Why would all these Hollywood big shots now veer away from their contemporary medium into our domain? The answer is quite simple actually! More people like video games! I’m serious! In a recent NPD study, they had this to say:

According to the NPD research group, 63 percent of Americans have played a video game in the past six months — but only 53 percent of Americans went out to the movies over the same time period.

*And queue all the movie directors walking the plank as the pirate music wails away in the background.

Do you realize what this means? We’re winning. We’re not sure what we’re winning, but surely someone, somewhere, was arguing about why video games are better than films. The NPD just supplied this lone crusader with an invaluable piece of empirical evidence.

Keep the fire, brother. Your hour of victory draws near. And I’m right behind you, burning torch in hand!
