Gamescom 2017 – Here’s every game that’s getting an Xbox One X enhancement

Even though last night’s Xbox stream showed very little new content, I still kind of want an Xbox One X. Sure, it may not have any games to launch with and requires a tremendous leap of faith from fans who’ll have to sit through the first half of 2018 before they really see anything new hit that next-gen console, but I want it for a specific purpose.

I want to show off dammit.

You don’t buy a console with the horsepower of the Xbox One X for a standard 1080p TV. You buy it for the sake of having the bleeding edge in technology, that goes with that fancy new 4K TV you just bought and is hooked up to a Yamaha amp with the newest surround sound speakers closing in on your eardrums. If you have that setup, then one: Will you please adopt me and two: You’re going to brag about your games setup and I don’t blame you.

Back on topic then, with the Xbox One X at least promising to “enhance” a hefty list of games. During the Gamescom 2017 livestream, Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg spoke about games such as Quantum Break and Halo 5: Guardians benefitting from these enhancements. While some games will get native 4K resolutions, others will have ye olde checkerboard faux K pick-ups and other trendy high-resolution textures added to them. Also buzzwords such as HDR and ants tropical filtering I guess.

Every game that is capable of getting an enhancement, will have it available for free as the onus is on the developers to decide just how they want to upgrade their titles. Here’s the full list of games that will be capable of having its good looks tuned up:

There are some good games on that list. There are some…odd games on that list. And worryingly there are a few games that aren’t on that list, like Destiny 2. Time will tell if these enhancements make the Xbox One Xpac worth owning. At the very least though, there’ll be an established library of games that should sport some pretty sweet visuals for you to gloat about when the 1080p peasants come knocking on your door.
