Gamestop confirms it authorised stores to break the MW2 street date

Am I the only one who finds this admission from Gamestop to be a little unsettling?

Oh wait I have forgotten to tell you about the admission yet, according to Gamestop corporate

“This past weekend, GameStop made the decision to break street date and sell reserved copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in select markets where other retailers had broken street date. Our decision followed many conversations with Activision and was an effort to protect our customer base.”

So Gamestop are openly admitting that they knowingly broke the biggest street date of the year simply because they were worried other retailers were going to be the same thing.

Now Activision has already stated that they did not give Gamestop permission to breach the street date so the big question now is whether Activision are going to do anything to punish Gamestop for openly breaching the rules?

If they don’t then they have no right to complain about anyone every breaking release dates again and if they do Gamestop has the retail power to really make them hurt.

Glad it’s not me making this decision now.
