Remember Michael Mann’s kick ass 1995 action film Heat? Well Gearbox Software was supposed to be developing the game based on the iconic film. However the 10 year-old Texan developer who are currently in the final stages of their Borderlands project have revealed some bad news.
Apparently Randy Pitchford, Gearbox CEO mentioned that they are planning to sell the rights to the game to another studio. This is allegedly because they don’t have the time capacity to handle the project. Here’s what he had to say,
“In a nutshell, we’re nowhere […] We have passionate game makers that would love to do it. We’ve got filmmakers that think it’s a great idea that would love to see it done. We have publishing partners that would love to publish it. But we have no time. That’s the limiting factor”
Well I’m disappointed that it looks like it will still be a while before we see this title on the shelves. I’m a huge fan of the film and after playing through the shoot-out sequences in Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, I would love to play through a decent game iteration so I’m hoping someone takes on the challenge pretty soon.
