Gears of War

The big news last week was that Gears of War 3 will be launched with dedicated servers for multiplayer to, hopefully, finally put an end to the infamous host shotgun and alleviate the lag that many of us have experienced.

But in an interesting update Epic games have confirmed this morning that Gears of War 2 has actually been running off dedicated servers since title update 6 for certain individuals.

In what has basically been an extensive and lengthy beta testing period they have been selecting certain games to be hosted via dedicated servers to ensure that everything works as planned when Gears of War 3 is finally released.

I am guessing since no one seems to have complained or said much about it that the difference hasn’t been overly noticeable but I guess you wouldn’t go running to the forums if you just had a nice smooth game.

In other news my previous request for information around a dedicated server for developing countries or private peer-2-peer games has gone un-answered leaving me to believe that this isn’t going to happen. So lets hope the World Cup has resolved our international latency issues in preperation for Gears of War 3 next November.
