Gears of War 3 – What we saw

Gears3

One of the things I really wanted to see at E3 this year was Gears of War 3 and while we haven’t been given our hands on just yet I did get to watch Cliff Bleszinski and 3 other Epic employees playing through a level of the co-op single player campaign.

The things that jumped out at me from the start were the visuals, they are still the same old Gears visuals but they have an added dash of polish and you are not going to be disappointed when it loads up on your Xbox 360 for the first time.

The ability to swap weapons is cool but I do doubt we will ever use it that much to be honest but the new melee kills and the ability to tag locusts with grenades and send them back to reek havoc is just awesome.

One thing I was very happy about however were the lambent Locusts, I have posted before that I was worried they were simply some cheap cash in on the zombie mania that we are currently undergoing but seeing those lambents appear from spires that smashed through the ground and then watching them mutate into weird demons of death was something to behold.

The berserker from Gears 1 and 2 are absolutely nothing compared to a lambent berserker and I really think we are going to be in for something special when that game launches next year.

We should be finding out about the Beast gametype this week and hopefully getting some hands on with an early build of the title. Obviously more news will follow shortly after that.

Absolutely no multiplayer news was announced… which made me sad.

PS: That blurry picture is the best I got and no it doesn’t mean we can expect Gears 3 in 3D

Gears 3 is looking pretty good. It’ll remain a first day purchase for me (lol even though gears 2 infuriated me with Dom’s whining).
