Gears of War 3 will never come to the PS3

It’s amazing that this story is still doing the rounds but there is still a core section of the PS3 crowd who feel that Xbox 360’s premier shooter, Gears of War, may actually grace the PS3 in the future.

The hopes of PS3 fans were briefly raised at GDC when Epic’s Mark Rein stated

Do we wish we could take all those Killzone [players] and Resistance fans on PS3, and get them to say ‘Gears is awesome’? Yeah, sure I’d love to ship the Gears trilogy on PlayStation. That would be fun. I want to be there; I want to be everywhere

But there is a difference between wanting a game to appear on the PS3 and it having any real chance of ever appearing.

In a recent interview with IndustryGamers the Gears of War head developer, Cliff Bleszinski, was asked again about a possible PS3 version and had this to say

"I would say in the foreseeable future there’s zero chances of Gears of War being on the PlayStation 3. Can we bury that now? Seriously. It’s like, we have a great deal with Microsoft, they’re a great partner.

Gears of War isn’t Epic’s only title or only income and Microsoft have been so good to them in regards to this franchise, for obvious reasons, they would be a very brave (or stupid) company indeed to decide kick Microsoft in the face and release it on the PS3 just for a bit of extra cash.

It may one day grace a Sony platform but that won’t happen for at least 2 more years in my mind and not until the Xbox 360 is replaced with a newer console.

He also reiterated that Gears of War 3 isn’t going to be the end of the Gears of War franchise and is simply the end of this trilogy. So that Kinect powered Gears of War party game is still a possibility.
