Gears of War gets the Honest Trailer treatment

VREEEEEM

It’s become cool to hate on Gears of War. There’s good reason for it too; the plot is shallower than Darryn’s gene pool, it’s filled with big dumb characters and is so entrenched in muscular bro-culture it’s frightening. There’s a lot to like though. The game pretty much defined the last generation, creating an entire industry of third-person cover shooters with a singular palette. The game is a heck of a lot of fun, was a blast to play co-op, and hitting RAAM in the face with a torque bow is one of the best thing you can do in a videogame.

The latest of Smosh Games’ honest trailers captures pretty much all of that. The good, the bad and the ugly. I have to admit to growing a wee bit tired of their Honest Trailers, but because it’s Gears of War, I’m going to let this one slide.

There’s a new Gears of War coming sometime in the near future, developed by a new Studio, Black Tusk. It’s being directed by former Epic chap Rod Fergusson, and could well be the reason I finally buy an Xbox One. I’ll only do so if the multiplayer is completely broken though, because let’s face it – that’s what made it so much fun in the first place.

    Hilarious.

Still my favorite third person shooter’s MP to date. Yes, even 2’s. Not counting Judgement, that was a piece of shit.

But the rage, man. The rage is real on those matches.

That game can honestly give someone a heart attack… Everyone I talk to about those days say they felt the months slip off their life for playing…

Gears of War! It is THE game of the last generation. I cannot wait for the next iteration.

How can you ever get tired of Honest Trailers? You’re getting too old and cynical, Geoff!

It is bad. Latency issues, hit detection issues, shooting dudes in the foot and watching their heads explode. And that’s precisely what made it great.

    LOL!

Also, Gears of War was the biggest disappointment of my Xbox 360 purchase history. I never played the others to save myself more disappointment.

Though, after watching this one…it feels rushed and not as well thought out as some of the others. Such a fast pace…not their best work.
