Yeti

I loved the heck out of Far Cry 4. It may not have had quite as crazy and overarching a story as the previous one, but it felt quite a bit more cohesive and coherent. And aside from those blasted eagles, I liked pretty much everything about it. Well, except for its last DLC, the Escape from Durgesh prison. That was a single mode, separate from the main game that added an arcade-like time trail to everything. It was not worth the asking price. Hopefully, the next DLC, Valley of the Yetis, makes up for it.

It’s out on 10 March, and has you interacting with a mysterious mountain cult, and abominable snowmen. It’s got an interesting mechanic inspired by games like Minecraft and Don’t Starve, where you have to defend your base camp at night.

Your helicopter has crashed on an unforgiving Himalayan ridge. Explore the frozen landscape and capture, upgrade, and protect your camp from a mysterious cult. You are not alone, but will you survive? In the darkest caves, The Awakened Ones stalk their prey…

Capture the camp to survive in the valley and fight this cult that will try to regain control at night.

NEW OPEN WORLD

Explore and survive the new beautiful and majestic landscape of Kyrat at the top of the Himalayas.

DEFEND AND UPGRADE YOUR CAMP

Once you capture the camp, this location will become your safe house. Fortify your camp by completing side quests during the day, and defend it from waves of attackers at night.

UNCOVER THE MYSTERY

A mysterious cult inhabits this valley and now hides a secret based on old legends. Discover the secret behind the cult of The Awakened Ones, and survive the yetis.

It seems a little more interesting than that Durgesh Prison nonsense – and I’m looking for a good excuse to head back to Kyrat. Here’s a trailer.

And now, here’s the trailer for Valley of the Yetis.

I liked the mutants in the first game.
Maybe they should start putting a mythical creature in each game, just for a twist.

Then you’re the only person who liked them ;P

I felt they totally changed the way the game played for the worse. And don’t even get me started on that part where they dropped you out the helicopter into a bunch of them with only a lousy pistol.

I hated them. I loved the first Far Cry, right up until that point,

I liked the idea of monsters in a forest. Made NO sense, but hey, that’s what was awesome about it. I’d prefer monsters over Malaria 😛

I quite liked the malaria mechanic in 2, it gave an added risk to every encounter because of the uncertainty. Those instant respawn checkpoints though. :/

The ZERO stealth is what broke me.
You sneak over a hill 5kms away from an outpost and they start firing at you.

That could have been better too. Silenced weapons were pretty much pointless too. All said though, 2 is probably my favourite of the series so far, then 3.

I loved the environment in 2 the most. Better animals would’ve made a huge difference too.

The Afrikaans was an awesome surprise. First time I heard it is still one of my favourite gaming memories.

Attacked that outpost in the beginning, went pear-shaped because of the crappy stealth, hid under a bridge, heard the guy shouting “waar is hy? ek het hom verloor!”, I’m like “yes! ….. wait, what did you say?”

I wouldn’t. A local dev made one baaaaack in the day. Can’t remember the name, but it was dull.

If it’s done properly it could work. Like Empire Earth or Age Of Empires style. They always have 100 factions from Europe and one or none from the continent of Africa. I understand that’s where the demand lies, but we’re people too!

            February 27, 2015 at 08:48

1% of the gaming community though, so it’s not going to happen if it isn’t made by a local dev.

I guess, to me it was just more of an annoyance because of what JJ mentioned. The fact that you can so far away but these bastard will shoot you and with the aim of a god lol

            February 27, 2015 at 08:34

Really? Because the first time I came across one in the first game, I shat myself and ran the other way. Yeah, not my proudest moment.

I get what you’re saying, and it definitely did change the game from there onwards.
But I knew about them before going into the game, so expected the weird.
That said, it kind of had the same effect that the aliens had on the first Crysis. The game was bloody brilliant until the aliens showed up, then it was just a cliché

I didn’t mind 2, sure it was linear, but I had fun. Haven’t bothered with 3 because Origin.

I played about an hour of 2 before I quit it.
I didn’t mind the linear, it was the dumbed down controls and simplified suit that ruined it for me. Since it had to be console friendly.
