Ghosts in the CoD

It’s official, the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise will be called Call of Duty: Ghosts, releasing 5 November 2013.  And they even followed the teenage approach to life of “if it’s not on Facebook, it didn’t happen.”  Here is the official Facebook page for Call of Duty: Ghosts, not to be confused with the plethora of unofficial Facebook pages (which actually seem more active and interesting).

The Call of Duty website promises more info at the Xbox reveal on 21 May, but in the meantime, here is the teaser trailer for your viewing pleasure.

The new CoD will built on the “next gen” Call of Duty engine, developed by Infinity Ward.  While they are touting a range of new elements, such as traps on multiplayer maps, I still wonder if this this new CoD will be like every other white fish – taking on the flavors of its surroundings and being utterly replaceable. And what’s with it being teased at the Xbox event? Is there going to be more of that “timed exclusive” DLC nonsense?

When they started with masks I thought this would be a Batman COD. Till i saw the raggedy mask with the white shoe shine skull. He looks like a crackhead about to rob a 7-11

No, that means you played Black Ops,,, this is Ghosts… Apart from the obvious name difference, there’s a completely different dev team along with a new engine…But of course you know that or are you just picking up stompies with the whole copy n paste stigma to be popular with like minded folk here…?

Oh!, Now I should heed the words of a guy who thinks his gaming choices are a reflection of his intellect…I’m not here to be popular amongst the haters boetie…I enjoy the game for what it is and that is a defining game in FPS’s…Sure you can get upvotes from like minded people who think they need degrees to play certain titles but it doesn’t impress me in the least…

Oh yeah,,, Far Cry 3 has a really huge learning curve….Damn, it’s so intimidating… Ha!!! please dude…I’ve played everything from Bioshock, to Far Cry, Mass effect, Hitman, Spec ops and all these games that people like you claim to be superior coz of their story…Guess what, after all those truly fantastic stories (and they are), there’s nothing. It dissapears into the distance with no signs of future play…I still go back modern Warfare 3 in an attempt to beat my previous best in Survival…

            * because

Far Cry3, Mass Effect,Bioshock, etc. also has multiplayer. Your argument is invalid. Far Cry 3 is being used as a reference that COD is a rinse and repeat series that hardly ever offers anything new over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

            May 2, 2013 at 14:25

Same could be said for an Apple iPhone for example…Rince and repeat over and over it may seem…Innovation only happens at intervals…

Surely you can’t expect ground breaking advances every year…It took far cry how long to get where it is…?? How much of Far Cry 3’s mechanics/physics are from Modern Warfare’s breakthroughs in FSP’s…??

and i didn’t even mention MP ofr COD,, that’s a whole other ball game and we all know cOD MP is king of the roost…It’s absolutely massive on BO2….Survival on Single player on Modern Warfare 3….try it… I made it to wave 34 on my own. It’s not easy but a good blast …really tests your nerve….Apologies if I offended but no hard feelings mate…cheers

But as Fanboy Gavin pointed out. It is one of the very few franchises that run locked at 60fps. So I will give them KUDOS for that. Now HALO 4 is 30fps at 720 but I still think COD feels smoother.

Lets hope every game next gen is at an standard 720 60 fps… still less than what SONY promised us back in 2006 but better than today.

I’m a huge BF3 fan, most of my game time still goes into BF3 multiplayer and I cant wait for BF4, but I’ve enjoyed every COD game so far. Yeah, they are all very similar, but hell, if it works it works! Black Ops 2 was loads of fun, both the campaign and multiplayer, and I still play a few games now and then.

People can say what they want, but for that old engine Black ops 2 looks damn good on console and gives you one of the smoothest if not THE smoothest FPS experience on any platform, so I’m very excited to see what Infinity Ward can do with a new engine. As for gameplay, they should stick to what works… Many people hate COD games, and thats their right, yet it’s the best selling games out there…. Numbers talk, so call us COD zombies if you want 😛

I personally have no issue with COD games, I enjoy them, especially the multiplayer. Don’t judge it if you don’t enjoy their multiplayer, because thats where the real values at 🙂 But all that said, Battlefield is still FPS king to me!

This is very true. The game may not be bleeding edge when it comes to graphics. But it does look rather good for such an aging engine and yes, the FPS is very smooth.

You cannot be serious…This must be a joke….Do you really knock people down based on these choices??? Haven’t played Xcom yet but I’ve read nice reviews…but Do you really think that because you play these games, you’re intellectually superior to those that enjoy a quick shoot’emup ???

c’mon buddy, lets get serious here…The day you can have a conversation with a compliance officer on performing a proper needs analysis taking into account all areas including what waiting periods will apply to a prospective client based on pre-existing conditions either advised within the past 12 months or current, then come and talk to me…

I’ll finish Bioshock in one weekend….but that’s not the point mate…The point is that many people use gaming as an escape from reality, where actual people lives are at risk , to have a blast…And COD accommodates….Do not fall into the trap of judging intellectual ability based on game choices…
