GoG kicks off Big Winter sale with Star Wars Nostalgia and The Witcher 3 for cheap

It’s not just Steam that has big sales at this time of the year. The chaps from GoG – or Good old Games if you prefer, even if that’s becoming a bit of a misnomer – also give away a bunch of games as we enter the holiday season.

Yes, their focus is still on older games, but there’s a great selection of newer titles up for grabs too. GoG’s just kicked off its “Big Winter Sale,” and you can pick up some great classics, plus a number of newer games on the cheap.

Importantly, the Witcher 3 is currently on sale for half price. Yes, a full 50% off of one of the year’s very best games. Right now, you can also get the incredible, overlooked Baldur’s Gate-styled RPG from Obsidian, Pillars of Eternity, for half price too. And if that’s your sort of bag (baby!), you can also get Divinity: Original Sin for 33% off. Something else to consider? The locally-made, definitely awesome Stasis, which is also going for half off.

Unlike this year’s Steam Sale, these deals have a shelf-life, with new deals going up every 24 hours (after this initial, 48 hour launch), until December 13.

Within the next 30 or so hours, you can also pick up these incredible bundles:

  • Star Wars Saber Bundle (Knights of the Old Republic, Knights of the Old Republic II, Republic Commando, Dark Forces, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Knight – Jedi Academy, Empire at War, Starfighter, Battlefront II ) – $22.44 (77 percent off)
  • Star Wars Blaster Bundle (X-Wing Special Edition, TIE Fighter Special Edition, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, Rogue Squadron 3D, Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, Rebellion, Rebel Assault 1 and 2) – $28.72 (60 percent off)
  • LucasArts Classics Bundle (Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb, Sam & Max Hit the Road, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Monkey Island 2: Special Edition, The Dig, Loom, Afterlife, Zak Mckracken and the Alien Mindbenders, Outlaws) – $16.90 (75 percent off)
  • The Divine Pack (Beyond Divinity, Divinity 2, Divinity: Dragon Commander) – $10.62 (85 percent off)

GoG is also giving you a digital lucky packet, with $3 mystery games (each worth up to $34.99). On top of that, they’re giving away some freebies too; get a free copy of Divine Divinity after spending $5, and Blackguards Special Edition after spending $50 or more.

All of these games are DRM free (so Merry Christmas to you too, RyanZA!), so you’ll have no issues playing them across your systems.

Anyone else switching harder to Steam, because of how much cheaper it is now with everything switching to Rand?

Well except for the evangelical no-DRM people.

Good man! Just as well you stopped there, I still fear the moment I open my steam account again, don’t think I’ll have the self control to stop at any given point…

Everything but new games are cheaper.
New games are still 40%-50% cheaper at retail.

True, but I think having it on Steam has so many upsides that I would rather get it on there anyway or just wait on the sale really.

Well, most retail games activate on Steam anyway these days. Those that don’t can GITS. 😀
Fallout being 50% cheaper at retail made that an easy choice for me.

Not in the case of JC3. Preorder prices were R450 on Steam, R515 at Raru.

          That’s damn cheap for Steam.
Clearly Sqeenix has a better handle on pricing than Bethesda.

You know I bought it via GoG and galaxy is just not at all ready for release. So now I am stuck with a game I have to manually update 🙁 10/10 will buy their stuff on Steam rather from now on.

Once Witcher 3 is cheap enough on Steam I’m going to buy a Steam version too.
Honestly. It’s just so much better.

I guess I will do that as well… Wish I did more investigation into galaxy though. No cloud saves and updates break more than they work 🙁 Will wait a while before trying it again.

Yea. I did a pc cleanup, now GOG won’t restore my game, so I have to re-download everything.
            Just not worth it.

That happened to me 3 times already where the update broke the game 🙁

Uninstalled galaxy and went back to the downloader thing.

Releasing a game as big as Witcher 3 on a BETA client was such a bad decision.

I downloaded the last patch via a torrent….A TORRENT.

            Galaxy needs urgent attention

How’s this, I managed to download all of the patches for the game, including the expansion, installed all of the patches, managed to get all of the extras etc., what does the client do? No, I see you have a copy of the game, let me download a backup copy (literally everything that is contained in the games main folder, to a separate folder under the Prog FilesGalaxy folder…) because reason and apparently because feather, no matter what I do, every single time I connect to the internet, Galaxy tries something that is as/if not more confusing than a Jacob Zuma numbers speech….

Yea man. I’m definitely getting it on Steam too.
I’m tired of that crap and needing 10 different clients for all my games.
