GoG launching three titles with regional rates

Foreign currency

Good Old Games has a strong focus on DRM-free gaming, as well as fantastic classic games (as the name would imply). However, as they are moving into offering launch day releases, they are also accepting more currencies – and even giving away presents.

According to an announcement on GoG.com, three games will be launching soon with regional pricing:

As mentioned, we have three games we’re launching soon with regional pricing–two RPGs and a strategy game–and while we can’t tell you what they are yet because breaking an NDA has more severe penalties than just getting a noogie, we’re confident that you’ll be as excited about these games as we are. For a limited time, we will be offering anyone who pre-orders or buys one of them a free game from a selection as a gift from GOG.com, just like we did for The Witcher 2.

So, why the regional pricing? Well, according to the announcement, pricing is always in their partners’ hands and regional pricing is becoming the standard around the globe. Game costs will vary in the US, UK, EU and Australia – so it will be best for South Africans to play the exchange rates and determine which region they’re from to be most cost effective. I know for a long time it was the best to use Polish Zloty for all online purchases to get the best exchange rate.

I’m excited to know which titles they’re launching. Obviously they’ll be part of the Witcher 3 launch, but these must be something else if they still can’t name names. Two RPGs and a strategy game – sounds good to me. I’m sure they will be pretty decent if GoG is hyping them, plus they’re even more worthwhile with a free gift – everyone loves free stuff!

I like Steam but I prefer them over Steam. Because old games and zero clients running in the background

You like Steam but like Steam more than Steam? Or was it Steam?

Be careful though. It’s ripe for about ten seconds before it goes bad again.

I like having a single client with everything on it. I think that’s most of the appeal of Steam for me.

I don’t mind it so much as the icon in my task bar. Even though you can mike it hidden it’s still there. I like a clean desktop.

I really love the fact that you can even add non-steam games and still get the benefit of the steam chat overlay and all

            Did you not know?

Try it. Go add a game that doesn’t run through steam to your steam. 90% of games I have done this with allows the steam overlay.

Very few that don’t allow it or don’t support it

I’ve used that quite a few times. Very handy.
I have a game I bought many years ago. Activated on steam. Forgot about it.
It’s now the only game on my one Steam account that I forgot about, and there’s no way for me to transfer it to my current one. It drives me just slightly insane.

Yeah same happened to me and my HL2 steam account. It’s a completely separate account which I can’t recall the details of lol.

I like gog a lot, but don’t like buying big titles from them. Steam is just more convenient when it comes to installing, updates, etc.

Yes, Steam really capitalized on your weakness for shiny things, spend $10 get more badges, just another $10 more badges.

            February 24, 2014 at 10:39

That’s sort of he problem though. You can get a lot, but where do you find the time to play it all? For me spending the money ended up being pointless since time is a factor. Stopped getting sucked into Steam sales.

I actually do not even buy from Steam (AAA titles) or day one release games.

The price for a digital copy is way too expensive than buying a physical copy from our local retailers.

    Anyway ..

I swear it is The Witcher 3 because GOG.com is working very closely with CDProjekt Red…

I hope it is The Witcher 3 release date announcement ;)~
