Futurama (2)

As a mobile game! AAAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And I bet you totally read that in the voice of Hubert Farnsworth. Clickbaitery aside, I’ll take any chance I can get to see more of my beloved Planet Express crew. And soon, you’ll be able to do just by gazing at a five-inch slab of technology which can offer you a world of education if you weren’t so preoccupied with thinking that you’re the best on Twitter. You’re not, because Bender is the best and you can bite my hairy fleshy ass if you disagree.

Anyway, Futurama! One of the greatest cartoons ever made, about a delivery boy who happens to find himself cryogenically frozen one new year’s eve in 1999 and wakes up a thousand years later to discover a very different future awaits him. Not only was Futurama charming, it was smart with its humour. Comedy which ranged from the usual slapstick through to complex mathematical paradoxes which popped up as background gags. Fantastic stuff, and consistently brilliant over the course of several seasons and many, many years of wandering around in hiatus.

Futurama ended way back in 2013 with 140 episodes in the bag, but it’s getting a new lease on life in Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow. Developed by TinyCo and Fox Interactive, the mobile game will feature new content from creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, while Rough Draft studios will oversee that their original animation style is kept intact.

Futurama (1)

“I love this game because it feels just like Futurama,” Groening said in a press release. “Except now you get to jab the characters in the face.”

Other than that, details are being kept secret at this point. TinyCo’s last game was Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, another Fox property whose formula I’d imagine that World of Tomorrow won’t stray too far from: Free-to-play city management. With Futurama set inside of New New York, that could at least make for some interesting locations to visit while remembering that Bender is the greatest because he said so.

And if you don’t like it, then you can go make your own mobile game. With blackjack! And hookers! …screw it, just the hookers then.

Yeah, unfortunately I have no control over that. The excerpt on the front page still made it clear, but otherwise: The whole headline was just part of a joke pal. And as for clickbait? That wasn’t the actual intent. I just wanted to make a Richard Nixon reference.

    Damn, this is disappointing.
I saw just below the heading it said “as a mobile game”, so it’s not that. I just feel like they should’ve gone the proper game route instead of this. Look at how excellent South Park did with theirs whereas I won’t even bother with a mobile game.

Mobile games are a curse on everything good in this world, purely because they lead to this!
