Okay I found this on the Internet this morning, thanks to a tip from Doobiwan, and I have to say I am a little disappointed. I don’t see it being much different or any better than PGR4.
It is obviously not photo realistic and the game play on the tracks seems quite atrocious.
Am I missing something?
If you are having problems viewing the video you can watch it on the G4 website here

There’s a few gameplay videos up on Gametrailers.com for download.
The problem with these games is they spend too much of R&D on the cars and licenses. If you take a game like FORZA 2 it’s a similar scenario. 300 cars but only 1 photo realistic track(Sebring).
Race Driver:Grid does put an interesting “spin” on this genre although it only has 45 cars.

Don’t get too excited. There’s plenty of time until the final version is released. It may only be released locally until early 2009. Only Japan has a Q4 2008 release date.

Is this video on GT? I need to download it. Videos aren’t playing to well lately.

@JP- Not this exact video. There are some other recent gameplay HD videos from GDC 2008 on GT to download.

@ Lazy
You can’t judge a book by its cover!!! You are watching a small non HD video, look at it on a HD tv and you will see that it is almost photo realistic. Even GT Concept witch was using the PS2 engine looks almost realistic!
The gameplay is someone playing the game, how would you know if its atrocious.
Until you own a PS3 and have played said game in HD, please don’t comment anything other than news.

Thanks guys for the back up 😀
@PS3>360, I think you will find I post a lot of positive PS3 news but honestly this video is not a good sales point for GT. I am quite happy to eat my words if it proves to be as uber good as people are making it out to be. But if this video is anything to go buy then it really is going to be a let down.
On the side, aren’t you being a little bit defensive over a demo that you have not played and have no emotional or financial ties to?

That’s how fanboys are lazy, they get their backs up over anything that may slight their particular choice, even the tiniest little bit. 🙂

This video is old. GT have some nice videos. Did anybody see the Japanese TV advert?
@Lazy- You have to post the Japanese TV spot advert. It’s on Gametrailers.com

I cant remember the exact address, but I saw some amazing HD shots of GT5 prologue on kotaku a few weeks back, it really was the best looking racer I’ve seen. Not quite photo-realistic but very very close.
I bought a ps3 in an impulsive move, gonna give this game a bash in april when it comes out, mind you, if it sucks….. guess i’ll just be back to my trusty 360 and boot the ps..
oh and to the ps fanboy: dude, seriously, no one forced you to spend all of your college fund on a launch ps3.. deal with it and stop harrassing people.

@fox1
Lazy has, it’s the advert were the kids playing on the ps3 (the game is GT5) and he thinks it’s a video, now i don’t speak Japaneses all to well, but the one chick says it’s a good game in Jap, and the old guy says “GAYUM???!!!” or GAME!? (just more effective with the accent)

I’ve got a question for you guys seeing as it’s come up a few times:
Would you want photo-realistic games?
I Personally like my games to look like games, i do want the graphics to be as good as possible but i would never want photo-realism. Just me, what do you guys think?

@Scotty, ah yes I remember that one. That was cool.
@Banana, I think it depends entirely on the game. I loved the cartoon graphics of Team Fortress but the photo realism of Alone in the Dark is really cool

@Lazy & Scotty- Not that trailer. I’m talking about the one with the Nissan GTR. It’s 15sec.
Heres the link in:

And there’s a full preview available.
Heres the link:

Both can be watched in HD.
Maybe Lazy should just repost one of the better videos.

@Banana – I would like photo realistic games, but they wil probably never happen, especially games with humans in them. The game will probably be censored like mad.
@PS>360 : You make valid points in your mail, no need to attack the messenger though.
All of the GT games have been absolutely stunning. I was very suprised when I picked up Forza2 and the handling of the cars were exactly the same as GT4 on PS2. I believe GT5 won’t dissapoint.

After reading LazyGamer’s write-up and then watching the video, I’m a bit relieved… I was expecting it to be awful! 🙂 I must say, it doesn’t look a whole lot better than Forza 2 for example, but I’ve seen enough gameplay footage elsewhere to remain confident that it’ll trump Forza in the graphics department.
There has been so much hype around this game that I think many people will be disappointed when they find out that it is NOT as realistic as they were expecting. Perhaps I’m in the minority here, but I just can’t see how one game (like GT5) is going to come along and push the graphics bar on the PS3 to unheard-of heights. Tell me what you want about the “untapped cell processor” and how the best is yet to come, I have a feeling we’ve seen the PS3 at close to its best already in other titles.
It is a fantastic system (one which I own myself), but I don’t expect any forthcoming title to absolutely WOW me in the graphics department anymore. We’re gonna need to look to PC games for those kicks.

Doh, all I asked Lazy for originally was just his opinion … :$
On the realism versus “stylized” I think certain games should strive to realism, racing in particular, it is generally just “car p0rn” of some variety or another, so it’s well served.
I do think though that there’s too much realism. I guess it’s the goal of early tech to try push the consoles to the limit, But TF, or NMH gets more points for style and looks in my book than CoD4 does, I’m sick of drab realism, I have to live it every day :p

That video is a shocker… I’m one of many PS3 owners that downloaded the Japanese GT5 Prologue playable demo with 6 of the cars from GT5 Prologue and it’s awesome… Nothing like the SD quality video shown here. I don’t think any little video off these sites for any console or any game can ever do any game justice. Seeing it and playing it in all it’s HD glory is what it’s all about…. 😉
