Pay to drive

Sony has confirmed that their upcoming racing simulator, that is oddly not available on the PlayStation 4, will include in game credits. Or in other words prepare to be micro transacted to death.

gt6microtransactions

The in game currency will be able to be purchased in packs of either 500 000, 1 million, 2.5 million or a whopping 7 million.

Sony hasn’t yet revealed how much the packs will cost or if they will affect the balance in online play but if we look at how rocky the GTA Online experience has been I think it’s safe to say that this makes me worry a ton.

The growing trend of nickel and diming gamers is something I cannot stand, but it makes them a fortune and people will continue to pay to improve so I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon.

I also find it amusingly ironic that Sony announced this information on the same day our local government announced that e-Tolls will be activated on the 3rd of December. Now all you Joburg people, please do the right thing and pay your e-Tolls. After the final demand arrives and you have made the government pay out more than you are going to be paying in.

See I disagree, for the enthusiasts, this changes nothing. You still collect credits by winning races, license tests, etc… I heard a great deal of criticism in past generations, that people didn’t want to start off with a crap machine and work towards a dream machine. They just wanted to use the high end cars.

This allows for both styles of play, with a penalty to those who want to cut corners. I’m ok with it.

The same with FORZA. It is always the same recycled tracks. But 1 track should always be in by default and that is the Nürburgring. Yet they have taken it out of FORZA 5.

Give us more coooool Tracks in-game and not via DLC. The best track that I have seen is the Fujimi Kaido.

      More tracks less cars.

37 different tracks, with a 100 different layouts! Including but not limited to: Brands Hatch, Spa, the Ring, Laguna Seca, Ascari (kinda like a “best of all tracks” track, located in Spain!), Suzuka, Silverstone, Monza.

GT6 will definitely not be short on content. It’s car porn!

I love GT, and will absolutely get it. But it’s hardly the only thing I play. Thing is, this isn’t necessarily targeting current GT fans, this is targetting people who only want to race the fast cars, which typically goes against how Gran Turismo builds from the weakest jalopies to the 1000+ HP supercars.

They really won’t make a difference to online play in GT6. When you set up a room, you can state the exact regulations. There are Performance Points allocated to your vehicle, which takes into account the base vehicle and any upgrades that you have effected to your vehicle of choice.

Thus, you can say you want cars with no more than 500PP for instance. I can use my GTR for example, a vehicle which has 500PP, and tune it up to 550 PP. The base vehicle will cost me 80 000 credits, with the upgrades another 20 000. You can use you Lamborghini Gallardo with 548PP if you want, which set you back 200 000 credits. Geoff can use his Honda Civic which was 20 000 credits, and had only 300 base PP points, but upgrade the car to 550 with 150 000 credit’s worth of upgrades.

What I’m trying to illustrate (and failing badly!) is that you can have all the credits in the world, it won’t make a difference. Also, you can’t buy driving ability 🙂

As long as you still accrue credits through races, I don’t care. Many people have complained in the past that they don’t want to go through the game to unlock the super badass cars, so here’s an alternative to them. I’ll still do it the old fashioned way.
