KAZ: Pushing the Virtual Divide; a documentary about Gran Turismo creator and owner of Polyphony Digital Kazunori Yamauchi has landed on YouTube for viewing for free.

The one hour and  24 minute film boasts high production values and details the history of Yamauchi’s life and passion for cars, forming Polyphony digital. It has interviews from high profile people like Jordan Greer, founder of GT Planet, the biggest Gran Turismo fan site on the web, and people who have met and worked with  throughout his racing career and during development of Gran Turismo.

“This film is about drive. It’s about the passion and creative drive of Kazunori Yamauchi, the architect behind Gran Turismo’s birth and breath-taking fifteen-year evolution. This film will trace his relentless willingness to challenge himself, to hold none of his past achievements sacred, and push beyond the virtual divide in his pursuit of perfection. Through the support of PlayStation, Kaz’s journey has forever changed the gaming and automotive landscape and in doing so, has redefined how we perceive the relationship between art, entertainment and culture.”

Being quite a big Gran Turismo fan, I found it to be really interesting. Obviously I’m likely in the minority here, but if you’re any fan of cars, racing, game or car design, or Gran Turismo and the people and process behind it, it’s most certainly worth a watch.

It’s actually a very good documentary, I watched it yesterday. Pretty cool that Kazunori’s had this vision for the series for so very long.
