Graph comparing US console sales

Well that is much easier to understand than all those numbers I keep posting.

The above graph is the NPD sales data for America this year.

Two important things to notice, the PS3 has been dropping in sales since it was released which is very bad… The Wii had an absolutely terrible March.

Apart from that it’s nothing we have not seen before. Gamasutra.com does have old sales data though and they have been comparing the 360’s sales to the PS2 at the same point in it’s life cycle.

From 1 January 2002 to 30 June 2002, Sony sold 2.48 million PlayStation 2 consoles, for a rate of around 95,000 systems per week. For the comparable period this year, Microsoft has sold 1.25 million Xbox 360 systems at a rate of around 46,000 per week.

So at this rate the 360 has no chance of catching the PS2 in overall sales, I have a feeling we can blame the Wii for stealing all the casual gamers though.

Just imagine the X360 sales spike when Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect & Blue Dragon is out in the EU & US.

Do you honestly think Blue Dragon is going to sell well in the American market?

If FF games sell quite well why not? Its a Japanese RPG which has a solid following in both regions. Do think FF is the only Jap RPG ever? Eternal Sonata is also bound for the X360 by late 2007, so thats another Jap RPG to look out for.
