GRID – Exclusive Smashing Trailer

40 second read

So the PS3 GT5 prologue is just arriving and has been hyped as the ultimate racing game for next gen consoles. However it looks like it may have a challenger for that crown and if what we are seeing from GRID is all true then I think that challenger is going to squash GT5…

Purely down to the fact that GRID looks just as amazing but also includes crash damage, something which is unbelievably missing from GT….

Apparently the above video is all in game but to me in game can mean many things. Is it an in game theatre mode or true in game gameplay? I can’t wait to find out.

I have every iteration of racing game from Codemasters. This will be a day 1 buy for me. I will say this “trailer” looks very good, but I will wait until I see some actual game play footage before I start comparing it to the LEGEND of racing games.

I started playing Forza online again this week and realised again how much I love racing sims. I will be looking at this then if they have online multiplayer.

I have not played Gran Tourismo since nr.2 and can’t believe they don’t have crash damage yet. By the way Gran Turismo 1 is still one of my all time favourites.

@koldFU5iON, “actual in-game footage” of what? A replay? A little demo while the console sits idle? There are some strange camera angles if that is game play.

This game makes PGR4 look soooo old and dated.

@koldFU5iON & darthdad- Check these screenshots out. There is a gameplay one here:

@darthdad, let’s explain it this way, in games we get cut scene’s some are pre-rendered scenes created without the game engine, others use the game engine to create the cutscene the only difference here is that the player doesn’t have control over the character we’ve seen this in multiple AAA titles, Assassin’s Creed, Gears of War, Unreal, etc. all use the “in-game” engine to generate the vid other games such as Final Fantasy use pre-rendered scene to pull of that movie sequence feel, the character/model animation is something that is created is a pre-cut part of an animation process that is then fused with the engine to create the trailer you see before you now. – does that clear things up a little?

Darth, the exact same criticism can also be levelled at GT5. The ‘trailers’ compared with actual reviewer recorded Prologue footage are vastly different.

So yes I do agree, I want to see actual behind the wheel footage. At the same time, having played DiRT and considering where Codies were a year ago, I don’t find this footage “impossible”.

But more than just the pretty pictures, did anyone else notice the two reveals?

The reason GT doesn’t have crash damage is they have too many perfectly detailed cars (700 cars in GT4).

Though, I will admit I was disappointed that GT5 isn’t getting crash damage.

    But I do understand why…

Thanks Fox1, @darthdad, *sigh* whatever dude. just on a side note though if you had DiRT you’d have seen the movie like replay’s which has probably been implemented in GRID now as well. but that’s enough on this topic either way I believe this game is going to be an eye opener and I can’t wait.

LOL all I say is the game doesnt have to look the best, doesnt have to have the best physics or damage systems. Just needs to be engaging and fun to play. Have that little quality called addictiveness that gets you craving and coming back for more. 🙂 My Thursday morning thoughts of wisdom.

    Just scrutinising the trailer:

    1) I think that circuit is Spa-Francorchamps Belgian.

    2) That looks more like F3000 cars than F1.

    3) No weather effects.
