Grimer is getting an Alolan upgrade in Pokémon Sun and Moon

There are certain Pokémon that I always look for whenever a new game in the series launches. I adore raising an Eevee into an Umbreon, I’d be lost without a Dragon in my gang and I usually keep a Steel-type around which I name after a Tenacious D reference. All Pokémon from generation two and up. “But Darryn, what about generation one pocket monsters,” you ask with your rosy cheeks that I’ll pinch until I draw blood.

Listen kids, Generation One Pokémon are so 1996. They’re old-hat, remnants of a bygone era when the only way to trade pocket monsters was to do so with a length of GameBoy cord that was long enough to double as a jump-rope. But the old guard is making a return this year, with brand new Alolan variant forms. You’ve seen some of them already: An Exeguttor that looks like it wants to be a Giraffe, a shifty Meowth and a cool as ice Sandslash are on the cards.

And even the slimiest of Pokémon, Grimer, is getting an upgrade. That’s from a recent scan of CoroCoro magazine via Serebii, which revealed the new look for Grimer in Pokémon Sun and Moon, which adds a dash of darkness to his stats:

Grimer alola

According to the leaks, the newly revealed Jangmo-o is also capable of evolving into a Dragon and Fighting-Type hybrid, something never seen before in Pokémon games. There was also news that Type: Null can evolve based on what item it’s holding into Shiruvadi, whose elemental type is based on said item. Translations are still coming in, so stick around for more data.

Or go read that Pokédex that I’ve been putting together. You might as well, I locked the doors again. Pokémon Sun and Moon is out in November.
