GT5 hanging thanks to extreme congestion… in single player mode

Crank this one up to an absolutely awful technical design, Polyphony Digital are warning GT5 players in game that they may experience extreme slowness while playing a single player campaign or even navigating the menu’s thanks to ‘extreme online traffic congestion’.

Yes unfortunately the fact that they didn’t adequately plan for the online surge has left the servers under extreme pressure and since the single player campaign and certain menu’s attempt to connect to the online system that now is also hanging.

From a system design perspective this is abysmal and there is no excuse for it. It’s software design 101 and they really should have planned for this.

The only advice right now is to disconnect from the PSN if you plan to play single player until they resolve the issues.

In related news I am getting sick and tired of these game companies not planning appropriately for online connectivity. It happens on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 every time a new AAA title is released and really this is ridiculous. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out how to properly plan for the early peak usage and then maintain the relevant capacity moving forward.

Yeah take what you think you need, and then x 10 it.

The constant date and time errors are also annoying as shit.

This is happening to me and let me tell you that last night it was THE WORST thing ever to have to deal with.

I sat down to play GT5 the whole of last night, only to have a lot of the menus seriously take, with no exaggeration here… 3-5 mins to load a new menu screen.

It sometimes took me 15mins just to do something like change my car and pick a new race, I hope they get this sorted ASAP.

N4G is RIFE with LazyGamer hate right now. Can we all just agree that PS3 fanboys are the most fanatic?? I said fanboys so if you aren’t one you won’t take any offence. These guys would sell their own mothers if they said anything remotely negative about the baby they had with Sony.
Personally, I love it, my sides haven’t hurt so bad from laughter in a long time.

Had the same issue last night but only like twice for a minute or two.

Anyways, with such a boom in multiplayer and online conectivity accross the world I can bare with a little “growth pains”

It’s easy for us to complain about stuff like this but I think in todays enviroment there is more to it then meets the eye…

you know, you guys are just as bad as lans & co. except lans has/had passion, although it doesn’t quite excuse his rhetoric.
you are clearly not a fan of sony, yet you feel compelled to post in every article regarding gt5 (thinly veiled guise for sony). why? is there some latent issue you got?

xbox fanboy is equally bad as a ps3 fanboy, as is a justin bieber fanboy. there is no distinction.

+1. Rabid fanboys are the same, regardless of which side of the fence they’re throwing rotten tomatoes from.

Yeah I can normally deal with online issues in the first few days, but I got really emo when I couldn’t play the career mode because stuff was trying to connect and failing. Made some things take way longer than they should have and I sometimes got stuck in certain screens as well

I didn’t say which was worse, I said the most fanatic. All you have to do is look at all the online petitions trying to keep DMC, TEKKEN and Final Fantasy exclusive to the ps3 and you’ll see where the most fanatics reside. Let’s not even talk about the death threats that a reviewer got for Killzone’s 8 score or how Wada recieved death threats on his twitter account for Final Fantasy coming to X360.
Facts are facts, I didn’t say 360 fanboys were better, however ps3 fanboys have a recorded history of extreme behaviour in the name of their console

When the menu got stuck at the GT logo for a long time I also thought “oh crap dont die on me now” haha

There must be massive amounts of data being uploaded to the GT5 servers. Any program that is online dependent wiil suffer from such “hick ups” as it’s waits for the data to be processed.

Holding thumbs that by this weekend things will be smooth.

    I agree with “easy”

There are a lot of other xbox fan boys that state their opinion with which you can have a meaninful discussion. Those guys I respect but with the case such as Ndibu it’s a joke.

Every time needs to say something negative and repeatedly hammer on points to justify and justfy and justify…

The irony is, laughing at the PS3 fanboys yet actually being a bigger joke and laugh himself

My impressions so far (very random i have not organized my thoughts)

Driving American Muscle Cars on Eiger Rally track and Toscana is incredibly rewarding i suggest you play on professional physics right away with 5 for traction control you can disable all other assists the game feels natural on these settings and is not hard at all.

Rally on pro settings is actually easier! but more unforgiving if you don’t lift throttle at some point.

The special event Top Gear Track first challenge is excruciating!
Those Top Gear Guys are such twats making us do that “challenge”
Samba Bus is beyond laughable im pretty sure a turtle is faster than those cars, i think i actually cried of frustration driving that POS bus!

Cockpit with Weather especially rain is very unnerving in rain as visibility is basically 0, you kind of have to hope for the best and wait for those red lights to pop up through the smoke, i don’t like the wipers and the shadows so i actually use cockpit during the day most of the time.

Nascar is much harder than i thought. how those cars stick so close together is beyond me! Crashes are epic in professional series, online events with 16 cars!

Special Night Stages with Ferrari’s are fast and very tense i can’t believe how hard it is to drive in a straight line as hard as you can on this track!

i love the graphic effects in tunnels as you still see the remaining water from cars still spraying water on cockpit.
Monaco is lush and gorgeous very fun drive!
Rally looks alot better than the Demos, Rally is very good actually i hope there are a few more different rally’s as i am throughly enjoying toscana and Eiger.
All of the Stealth cars except the slow mercedes are completely undrivable with a controller
sure you can win but you wont be able to use the car 100% without guaranteed spinout at some point.

Real World Tracks are modelled well
Deep Forest Race track is very good
    Trial Mountain is awful
    Eiger is astounding
    Suzuka/Fuji are modelled incredibly well
Autumm ring, im indifferent about pretty boring but serviceable
    Daytona is actually quite exciting
Indy while very similar to daytona has road textures that make it look less appealing
Tokyo,Madrid,London are a beauty to behold

The game AI only really shows itself when you got to professional series in GT Mode, they make mistakes and are quite pushy, and you’ll struggle to stay first in the straights.

GT Mode is stingy with Money, VERY STINGY!

Rally is second to none, the Dynamic Driving in GT5 will keep you hooked for months or years, games like Dirt 2 whilst more exciting, the physics seem canned and poor and once you learn the track the same things happen all the time, corners are so predictable, the only reason you don’t notice easily is because of all the AI cars making a fuss. With GT5 corners are always different especially when you change cars whereas in Dirt 2 the only thing that changes is the speed and how agressive you can turn into the corner. IMHO i am not trying to offend.

online is hassle free but people host retarded games! took looong time to find races i liked
    First Race i joined
Autumm Ring Mini 200 laps!!! WTF!

    Second Race
The Dude waits for everyone and somehow manages to race by himself i dont understand how we could not join then laughs at how much better he is then us???

    third race
10 Lap Dynamic weather and time at lemans, very tense! i was first until i got rammed from behind :/
i later befriended him and ran him off the track as often as i could find him!

Lag seems to be not really issue i really like commenting on the race before it starts!

The Game is better than any racing game ive played its a slow burner that gets more and more addictive not all flash and no substance like shift and nfs, ive never played any other racer for 28 hours in 2 days!! for me that is very excessive

*Another Factoid GT5 reviews were distributed this Monday, Im quite shocked how anyone could claim to have comprehensive and honest review in just 2 days?

I recommend this to any racing car nut that loves realism! those people craving for a need for speed type of experience with the scope of gt5 are not gonna get this game.

Compared to GT4 this game is a massive improvement and in terms of Physics this game can sit comfortably next to iracing and Rfactor however with this new iteration Polyphony has heard numerous complaints and are already going to release a patch with more damage to the cars, i am thoroughly impressed with the game and polyphony still reminds me of a young boy trying to discover the secrets of life in its own way!

I give this game a 10/10, whilst far from perfect for me the experience is perfect racing on Le mans with dynamic weather and time for 10 laps online is truly an amazing experience, (*note the light changed to evening light but did not go to night time as im sure more laps needed to be done)

The Racing Experience is what i love about it, the more you dig the more you are rewarded!

I’m not interested in fanboy wars anymore any sensible person can see the class in this game, and gt speaks for itself, when i first opened the signature edition i felt like i was 10 years old again. IMHO this is the greatest racing game ive ever played. I don’t need someone to tell me that for me to feel like this game is good. Let common sense prevail!
