GTA V gets leaked, goes gold

Every year, we get that one game that people would easily sell their grandma for to get their hands on it early. In 2011, it was Skyrim, while 2012 had people drooling over Borderlands 2. This year, it’s been GTA V. And a bunch of folks just got their first taste of the game ahead of the September 17 launch.

Pre-order customers on the Playstation 3 side had a chance to pre-load the entire game onto their console a month in advance, a move which inevitably led to some folks being able to extract parts of the game from the code.

Audio files from the game hit the net and began circulating into the wild, as well as the opening theme and several in-game advertisements. “Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets,” said SCEE’s head of communications Nick Caplin via the PlayStation Blog.

These assets were posted online. We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe.

We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch on September 17.

While only those few pieces of the game are circulating around the net right now, the game itself is still pretty much unplayable and hasn’t been broken. According to Russian modder Yuriy Krivoruchko via Rockstar Informer, he says that “it is not possible to run the game,” because “a Rockstar Games encryption key is needed which can be found only in the executable.”

BUT!

If a disc version of the game does leak, “it will be possible”, Krivoruchko said. On the plus side, the game has gone gold. What does that mean? It means that the game is in production, and that there will be no more delays. GTA V will be here on time.

“We’re pleased to confirm that Grand Theft Auto V has officially gone gold and we’re now preparing the game for release on September 17th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,” Rockstar wrote on its official website.

Unfortunately, as many of you may already know, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTAV assets leading to leaked information and media from the game appearing online.

As you can imagine, we are deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game’s launch. GTAV represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn’t be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17th.

Rockstar says that more content detailing the game will be appearing from now and until release, and like, please don’t spoil anything about GTA V yo.

Really don’t want to buy it for my PS, so I’ll have to wait. Or just buy something else instead.

Just wait a bit, work through that Steam backlog if you have one. I’m also going to wait.

Probably a good idea. My backlog is longer than a queue at the traffic department.

I’m thinking what’s going to happen is the PC version will be announced alongside the PS4/One version sometime mid next year. It seems apt giving a scaling engine could start at a much higher setting for that hardware than if you had to mix in the PS3/360 at the same time. Plus, sales will have slowed down by mid next year and it’ll be a good way to boost sales again.

I waited for IV on PC, can just as easily wait for V. It’s not like there’s a shortage of games out there to play at the moment 🙂

I really can’t wait for this game… but I’ll be on holiday on launch day, also in Cape Town (away from my Xbox) and my wife has over-ruled me and told me I can’t get it yet… so I’m pretty screwed when it comes to getting GTAV lol

I think your real problem is your wife…..

This has nothing to do with being a woman hating neanderthal who does whatever he wants. As if we were discussing strip clubs or something.

Her biggest worry is that her husband might be sitting a few feet from her playing a harmless video game. Clearly someone’s nuts are in a handbag.

Please…. divorce time. GTA V will be worth it. LOL

Only thing I’ve checked out other than some screens is the track listings, beyond that I can wait for it all.
