GTA V– Online matches and races at launch, more to follow

GTA (4)

I’ve got to be honest, GTA V’s online component looks pretty damn good. While we got a closer look at the multiplayer side of the game last night, we also saw that we’re getting an opportunity to create some of our own games and matches when the game goes online on October 1. Here’s some more details on that specific side of things.

Speaking to CVG, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies spoke about how the editing tools in the game would provide more than just deathmatch and racing options. “You open up the Creator, you place all your spawn points, place some props, place cars, place planes, place anything you want around the world,” Benzies said.

When you’re happy you’ve playtested it, when you’re happy to publish, hit the button, and it sends it up to the Cloud – our Social Club Cloud. That’s then available for everyone else in the world to use.

So, when [your friend] boots their game up, they could pick you as a preferred creator, and then all your content will get sucked back into [their game]. It’s constantly evolving. Everybody creates things. You choose whose content you want to see. You set up a blue marker, and that’s kind of the instigator of the mission.

You walk in there, and then it triggers whatever you’ve created. And that will constantly be evolving, so we’ll be creating content all the time – every day you’ll boot up the game and there’ll be new things coming in.

Benzies confirmed that while races and deathmacthes were the only options available at launch, more modes would be added in the months to come. “Initially, you’ll be able to create races and deathmatches, which are probably the simplest. And then, over time, when we feel comfortable that people are ready to get the new creators, they will be released,” Benzies said.

So it’ll be a trickle, but it’ll be a constant release of new creators and new content. We don’t want to overdo it. It’s a complex system. That’s another reason for the two week delay between single-player and Online.

We want to give people an opportunity to actually get their heads around what’s happened, because even single-player is a big advancement from the old games. There’s a lot of new things to learn.

Other interesting tidbits from the conversation include Benzies stressing that GTA Online would be a different game from GTA V, even though they share the same engine and that your custom avatar will appear in the game’s world map as well.

There’s some great potential here for GTA, even though I do anticipate the multiplayer playlists to be filled with rocket-launcher festivals when the game goes online. Still, there’s always a few talented guys out there, who know how to create something special. Can’t wait to play it yourself? Then you’ll have to make do with these screens from AGB until the game arrives September 22. the Online portion is going live in October, and is free with every copy of GTA V sold.

You see guys, this is why I have absolutely have no problem paying a “premium” price for this game. These guys offer so much value in their games be it DLC (Gta4 Episodes,RDR Undead Nightmare) or whatever.

The gaming industry can take some serious lessons from R* games.

When the dude said “Welcome to paradise.” I can only assume he was talking to all the trolls.

Why? I saw the gameplay video, and read all of this and all I saw was “GTA Online is going to be a trolls paradise”.

Jets, helis and so on firing rockets? Freedom to do as you wish and choose how you play? Let’s face it, humans stands NO chance on there with all the trolls who will inevitably flock there. :/
