GTAPrize

GTA V is awesome, or so I hear. As most of you know we here at Lazygamer are avid fans of GTA. Those of us that could afford to buy it have been playing, and talking, about it non-stop. All the glitches and all the bullying on pink motorbikes have caused Gavin a fair few headaches.

However, this is not about headaches, it is about prizes. Specifically some awesome prizes that you, the community can grab if you are fast enough. The reason GTA V has been mentioned is simple, there are two prizes up for grabs this week. Sleeping bags. Two GTA V sleeping bags to be specific.

To win one of these beauties simply write in the comments section the best gaming moment you have had. You can enter more than one story  – just try to keep it clean. The closing date is when we finally get the courage to read all the stories and count the names.

If you need any motivation just think back to all those years where you had to sleep on the cold hard ground at rAge. Now imagine the envy you will receive from your friends when you show up to any LAN, not just rAge, with a sleeping bag that has GTA V emblazoned on it.

Also please remember that we need to be able to contact you in some way, so a valid email address linked with the account you are using to post will be needed.

Now let chaos ensue! Competition only open to residents of South Africa.

Any one who has beaten either Demon Souls or Dark Souls will know that feeling of a tremendous weight being lifted of ones shoulders when you finish it. When you look back at the hours spent on the game the bosses you battled and the amount of times you died.

Then the utter feeling of terror when you read in the news that the plan a sequel. You may have beaten two of the hardest games known to man. Now a third one is on the way.

Was playing Splinter Cell Blacklist and doing one of the side missions that the NPCs had offered me.

Wave after wave of enemy fell before me. Extraction was only possible after every 5th wave and I had survived 14 with 1 enemy remaining in the 15th. It was time to GTFO, I jumped the ledge made it to cover, found my target and ran towards him with my assault rifle trained on his fragile little skull.

Down he fell in a hail of oncoming fire from my seemeingly bottomless 60 round mag. As I approached his lifeless corpse in victory I heard the tell tale sound of the grenade indicator…

    Here’s one,
Quake 2 Clan mates insisting I play a clan game after a braai. Pissed as hell and still drinking I kept strafe jumping off the ledges and everytime I did I would invariably fall in front of an opponent or 2 and for whatever reason on the day my aim was good even if my strafe jumping wasn’t. Ended up top scoring for the team the whole night and we won all our games.

Disclaimer: Should you choose to drink before playing, results may vary. You might also get calls from ppl the next day asking wtf was wrong with you when you called them the night before and pledged your love for their pets.

Mass Effect 1 on my first play through with a soldier. The moment I had to choose between Ashley Williams and Kayden Allenko. I had just started romancing her in the game (and fantasising in real life), but I was the soldier class, so it made tactical sense to rather save him. I paused the game and sat for more than 30 minutes trying to logically save her rather than him. I got really emotional and started swearing at the game for forcing this choice as she died.
Subsequent games Kayden always died without question. And when my soldier had a choice to make in ME3, I redid it UNTIL I SHOT THE MOFO MYSELF AS REVENGE FOR ASHLEY!! Die MOFO DIE!!! I am still not over loosing her in that play through. My paragon guy kept her alive and romanced her. My renegade chick was friendly with her. My soldier killed her 🙁

Infiltrator (Paragon): Ashley, Stripper girl, Ashley

Hitting the Ulduar raid, and attempting Mimiron for the first time.
One of our raid-leaders races ahead of us (damn Druids) , and sees a giant red button .
He asks on teamspeak, “Hey guys , what does this do ??” and before we can tell him that the button engages Hard Mode , the fool presses it.
Cue a giant door closing down, and us laughing at him.
so he wipes, and the boss respawns , we see the door on the other side is open and we decide to leg it across…..Cue the boss making a second coming and pwning all of us.

    was a Good laugh indeed.

Two friends & I used to play league Laserquest. One Saturday morning we were bored so decided to go play a few games. We were chatting quietly in the briefing room not paying attention to the whole rules & safety thing. There was another group of 4 guys there in their Laserquest t-shirts. Once the briefing was over & the marshall asked if there were any questions, the one guy sarcastically says maybe he should explain the rules to us again because they’re members, but we were talking through the whole thing. He just glances at us, goes, “Oh no, they’re members too.” The look on their faces was priceless. Then we proceeded to hunt them down & shoot the crap out of them.

Later in the game I let my team mates know I was about to ambush the enemy team (4 in middle) from behind coming from the top. Somehow they knew and came for me, but I still killed all 4 of them! While showing my friends a replay (was my best DotA moment ever), I realised I had my chat on ALL, so I actually warned them of my attack before killing them all!

The first time I realized that gaming was more than entertainment. There was nothing particularly special about the game, or even the moment. I had probably been having the worse day/time of my life, depression was ripe, and despair was bountiful. Things had been dark , but I remember coming home and feeling pretty awful and desperate, I then proceeded to load up Final Fantasy 7 and I don’t know exactly what happened, I was at the section where…AN IMPORTANT CHARACTER dies….and I just started crying (I was really young so don’t make fun of me crying like a sissy, of which I am proud!) I was filled with emotions that I had never experienced before and I continued to play this game for 9 hours that day, forgetting everything around me. There was nothing special about that moment really, but it was a pivotal point in my life where I realized gaming is not just entertainment, it is not an escape, it is joy, it is happiness and within it holds the possibilities for a brighter future…….

Day Of Defeat – 24 vs 24 massive battle Allied vs Axis. 3rd map score at 1-1. Extremely intense battle with 5sec left trailing the score count by 1 after around 1h30m. A 3 sec sprint in the middle of the battle away from the middle flag. Get 2 kills with my Tommy gun while sprinting for the flag and get the flag with less than 1 sec remaining and win one of the best FPS matches I still remember.

Playing DayZ, one of the regulars steals another players chopper, while the heli’s original owner is still in the passenger seat due to the driver being kicked for some or other reason. The thief then flies off to a group of friends and hovers in front of them yelling over TS, SHOOT THE PASSENEGER! SHOOT THE PASSENGER!!!
Poor guy is met with a wall of lead, a kill message pops up and the rage ensues XD We were laughing like maniacs XD

When I bought the Band Hero set a while ago, my friend gave a a lot of grief. “Why are you wasting your money on a kids toy”, he said. So I invited him to come see what it is all about one Friday after work. He arrived at around 18h00. After setting it up we played until about 22h00 and he left for home. The next morning at around 8h00, I received a call from him asking if I’m up. He was standing in front of the gate with two six packs ready for more plastic instrument mayhem. That Saturday we played non-stop until around 23h00.We has spasms in the fingers, but we were shredding the notes like rock gods! Needless to say we had to continue the rock on the Sunday. To this day I still see the notes whenever I hear one of the game-songs on the radio.

Way back when Doom 3 came out, my one buddy came over and i told him to get the best experience you gotta play with head phones and with the lights off, so he agreed. I told him, to start from the point I was at (which was the sequence where that door gets the hand coming through in the start) Never have I seen a guy so scared, he literally took cover under my desk almost! hahaha

When I was still living in my parents home, one night my dad (Who hates everything like movies,tv shows etc) came in my room and saw me playing Red dead Redemption. He sat down and asked me what it is about. When I explained he sat there for 2 hours watching me play. He then came in every night when I played and just sat there on the couch watching me. I could see that he really enjoyed it. Was amazing to see an old school 68 year old be so into watching someone play a video game. It warmed my heart and I knew Video games were more than just some thing “kids” do. It can capture the imaginations of even the grumpiest old men.

Dayz – Squad of 8 has 2 trucks and driving around the north of Chernarus. 7pm I spot a few tents in a very remote part of the map and find a massive camp with all the stuff you dream of. Take what we need, stash as much as possible at our base. Around 8pm we decide to go wait the squad in who’s place it might be…. we all forgot to write down the coordinates…. 9:15pm we find the base fully geared, 7 of us left. Get into position and proceed to wait it out. Just before 10pm we have a chopper coming in…. circling their base… we do not move but they seem to know we are there. They leave and our group leader spots a bandit close to the tents and we all drop and the bandit drops as well, BAM, DMR shot and he is down….ME 🙂
I respawn and proceed to our camp to restock and get back to the action which has now started with parachutes dropping from the chopper. 3am I had to log as I couldn’t go on anymore. Battle lasted till 6am, best Dayz battle ever.

GTA V: Steal chopper and get chased by military chopper. Destroy chopper with my chopper blades and safely get away.

XIII: Play at a LAN and select the sniper class. Headshot my friends 60% of the time, all of the time. Most of the kills while firing from the hip. Won all my games 🙂

CSS: Twice my bro point blank shoots me with the shotgun from behind, both times I turn around and headshot him dead with deagle. He was so pissed.

Finish Thief missions with no kills, blackjacking or being detected while stealing maximum loot. Feels good man. Same for Dishonored, but it’s a lot easier when compared to Thief.

Started playing Gta online, pimping out my ride and robbing a few stores, Hooked up with Circuit flow did few races, tried to complete a mission.. Failed, tried again failed, one more time failed lol. The had a race end to end car vs car, my car kicks circuit flows ass, he said “wait here let me get my fast car” have another race he kicks my ass! Then the worse mistake I ever made, he asks can I take your car for a spin and you take mine. “Fair enough” I said…. The way that car came back!! Tyres popped whole front of car off just the engine! right hand wheel crushed in, still took a pic of it to upload, sadly the picture could not show my expression when I saw my car rock up like that.

GTA V Online – Mission was to retrieve a car, take it to be sprayed and then deliver it. Somebody else got to the car before me and I chased them to the spray shop, the chase itself was insane and involved me ramping off a bridge and nearly landing on the roof of their car.

As he drives into the spray garage I kill him through the back windscreen and climb in the car and have it sprayed.

I see him respawn pretty close to me but I manage to get away.

As I’m getting to the garage where I have to deliver the car I see about 4 white dots moving in on my location, but luckily I manage to get the car into the garage – MISSION COMPLETE.

That’s when I hear a chopper and see the guy I killed in it, he lands on the roof and while I’m looking at him another guy rides me over with his car and proceeds to keep on reversing and going over my body while the guy that was in the chopper gets out and shoots me.

I died, but I still stole the car straight out of his lap and finished to mission.

    It was EPIC

Well… there was that one time at band camp and we.. oh, gaming moments… right. I recently had one in Minecraft of all games. It was Saturday evening 11 pm and had just finished playing the two hour Dark Souls 2 Beta. It was freakin hectic as we only had 2 hours to play the game and look for bugs while logged in to the developer’s server. I was stressed out cause you keep dying constantly and never know where those baddies will be.

Anyway… I decided that I needed to chill out a bit. So I fired up Minecraft. It’s tranquil tunes and mooing cows calmed me right down… My intention was to build some more onto my house, farm a bit and do chill stuff like that, until I unexpectedly ran over a cliff, while running towards some trees that I needed to chop down, and fell into a pool of water right next to a lava pit. So now I’m in a cave filled with water and lava and freakin mobs. I was on my way to chop wood, not fight, so I left swords and other mining necessaries at home. I dodged 2 zombies, fled to a clearing in the cave, mined rock with my bear hands and crafted a stone sword on the crafting table I conveniently keep in my inventory for just such an emergency. And then the fun began. As I started making my way back to the surface through the dark cave I hear skeletons, zombies and harmless bats closing in on my location. I knew had to fight all of them off and I was getting hungry. After an epic battle of cat and mouse, dodging and running, slashing and dashing, I finally managed to get out of the cave and back home with one heart and 2 food. I was now more stressed out than with Dark Souls so I calmly switched the PS3 and my laptop off and went to bed. Not fun boys and girls. Not fun at all. The end. 🙂

cost of Castle keg – free
    cost of braai’s – +/- R350 for whole weekend
cost of impromptu LAN – almost getting divorced for LANning an extra day (used to be a friday & saturday thing)
cost of one of the most awesome weekends of my life – priceless

I was playing X-Com Terror from the Deep, there was a single alien out of cover directly in front of my squad & only one squad member with any action points left. I took a snap shot, missed, the shot kept going then hit & killed another alien I hadn’t seen yet. Took another snap shot, with the same result – even further away. The third snap shot finally hit the alien directly in front of me.

Was playing Total Annihilation against a guy who’d never played before on a massive map. I built 5 long range Big Bertha cannons in range of his base, deactivated & cloaked – and with a cloaked radar station just behind his base. When my friend saw that he told me to leave him alone for a while so he could upgrade his base & army. After about 30 minutes of me just sitting there & building up my own forces it began.

Seeing the cannons come online, slowly aim, then just start firing in volleys was awesome. You just saw units disappearing from the radar. He had no chance to retaliate. Then I sent in the Krogoths to mop up. I didn’t take a single loss. It really was total annihilation.

We played 4 guys on HUGE map with 4 metal island, each island out of reach of long range artillery.

So I went for turtle base building a Cold War era type nuclear arsenal (100’s of nukes) wipe 2 opponents from the map third guy saw what I was doing and blocked with anti missile batteries.

With my strategy foiled and his formidable fleet and air force on its way I went into nuclear rage just chucking nukes at him. As my defences started to fall and using nukes on my own base as last ditch defense while still chucking the nukes at him his anti missiles ran out with me having 10 for nukes in reserve. I decided to prove my worthiness and entered anyway, stayed up a full 24 hours of racing. Final lap, tyres slipping and sliding around every corner. The second last corner I clipped the inside edge of the pitlane barrier and entered the pits.

With nothing more than chaotic button bashing (to get through the pitlane menu), my car crossed the finish line by +0.16 seconds ahead of the competition. Greatest driving game moment ever, used it against my brother every driving game opportunity since.

I know that, feel my bro used to be the boss with driving games. Then the age of Forza arrived, needles to say he refuses to play any racing game against me now.

Ooooh easy. CS 1.6 map was assault. Jumped off the roof above the side door ladder. Popped a guy in the head on the way down. Managed to land back on the ladder and knife someone as I reached the Apex. Comence football style celebration (Shirt over the head while running with my arms in the air)

The only thing that really comes to mind (so far) was a game of Dota.

I was playing as Magina and an ally (I think he was Rigwarl) and myself were laning top against a Ancient Apparition and a Sand King.
We had taken the 1st tower but were losing slightly.
A third enemy showed up to help Scourge push top, he was a str based tank although I forget which one.
My ally called me useless and told me to do something shortly after we got attacked 3v2 so I blinked in, attacked the Ancient Apparition 3 ~ 5 times, hit him with my ulti, hit him once more and killed him.
The Sand King and the other tank were nearby and were both hit by the aoe of my ulti, I then hit the Sand King twice and killed him.
I then blinked next to the third enemy and finished him off as well.
By this time I was standing slightly to the right of the 2nd scourge tower and blink was still on cooldown so I tried to run away but ended up dying from the tower’s attacks.

I then asked my ally if that was good enough for him.
He was very quiet for the rest of the game.

All 3 enemy heroes were on full health at the start of this and I killed them all in a 3v1 fight.

I then later proceeded to carry my team to victory.

The worst moment, for me well one of them was this weekend… Trying to join my Crew on Gta online only to hear the laughing of Rince, Vampire squirrel, Rock and Spiller hearing them joke laugh and even mention taking photos while I spend 45 min trying to join the game!

I was driving across a bridge trying to get away from The Lost, 2 of them are still after me, I shoot one behind me and the other is so close he ramps over his partners bike and right over the side of the bridge. I nearly fell over from laughing so hard.

The weirdest moment that I can think of was in Emperor: Battle for Dune.

I was playing lan with my brother and he’d built up a MASSIVE army of basic Atreides infantry.
This caused the game to start acting up.
I launched a few high powered Ordos explosives and proceeded to decimate his forces.
The game engine/pcs couldn’t handle that many infantry getting killed that quickly from those explosions and froze.

We discovered that day that Emperor: Battle for Dune frowned upon mass genocide.

I don’t think this counts as my best gaming moment but it sure was funny; so there I was buzzing around Los Santos in my newly aquired jet fighter, the cops trying bust my chops in their choppers so I turn around, I was too close for missiles so I switched to guns, nailed the 1st chopper narrowly missing the falling wreckage I pulled up and went straight into knife edge and lined up on the next chopper missed and pulled a high g turn to line up again but the next thing I hear is a sqwauk! Followed by a close up shot of startled Toocan/parrot as he flew past my canopy! Had me in stitches the whole night XD

There’s was an old arcade sidescroller – can’t even remember what it was called. You were a ninja & you could hang off sign posts & stuff, had to dodge traffic, etc. I played it religiously, and one day I clocked the entire game on one 20c credit. Did I feel like the BOSS.

Friend & I went to the Fairmont carnival, got horribly drunk on grapefruit schnapps (tray of 10 for R20!) & beer. Were wondering around & found a small Quake LAN. We were all “How do you play this?” & proceeded to run around causing mayhem while shouting out noob questions & asking how I died when I wasn’t the one who did. Good times lol.

    GTA V
The plan was simple: drive cross-county to Mount Chilidad as Micheal. Get a parachute. Find a chopper and do a base jump off the FIB buliding… 2 hours later all i had to show for my great plan was pile of bodies across the map, 4 high speed car chases(helicopters included), some random dude I saved and then killed (due to a misunderstanding on my part), a mime I don’t regret punching in the face and a suitcase filled with $25000. Still no parachute; still no chopper. But it was one hell of a ride!

I was playing a game called Oni and a friend asked me to show it to him. I was really just messing around and showing him the mechanics but in doing so attracted the attention of several enemy NPCs. Too many, so I ran for it and ran of course into another group. Knowing I was about to die I thought what the hell and tried to show my friend as many combos as I could. I somehow managed to chain every combo in the game in a row (never managed it before or after) and defeated them all flawlessly. My friend was suitably impressed and I was pretty chuffed with myself. Too bad I could never repeat the magic.

I’ve recently had a moment of gaming nirvana. I had finally got around to playing Hitman: Absolution; and was still in that phase of trying to make sense of the controls and how the AI works. In the mission to kill the self styled “king” of Chinatown I was wondering through the morass of innocents, remembering the Youtube vid I’d seen where they poisoned him.

My target lights up on the far end of Chinatown; and I make my way cautiously to him. I had to go into a quiet corner when some cops started back towards me; and while waiting for them to pass my target walks in the other direction. I watched incredulously while my target goes out of sight of everyone and proceeds to relieve himself. So I walked up behind him, garotted him and dumped him into a dumpster. I then left the scene. Mission complete, ghost, no innocents killed/harmed, suit only.

First try, pure coincidence, almost perfect score.

I would say… Playing BLACK on the PS2 on the most difficult setting… That final stage was a killer, Those guys with the double armour and the shields. And the frikkin door closes behind you. The pillars I hid behind can all be destroyed. There’s Automatics Big and Small, RPG’s, .44Mags, Grenades, you name it, short of airstrikes and nukes. AND, unlike BF/COD you have to pick up life and health packs… good luck with that when there is a horizontal RAINSTORM on projectiles. Four days… FOUR EFFIN DAYS (twas a long weekend 🙂 ) and eventually i had them beat…
And all the time my mom was behind me shouting (“there he is, on the top/left/right, is he dead? are you dead? Did you die again? why are you keep playing this?”)
So yep, i might not win the GTA – V bag, but damn it was remembering this!!!
