GTA V on PC is coming

One of the strangest things at the moment is that the biggest game of the past couple of years, Grand Theft Auto V, is still to receive a PC release date. According to Rockstar there are no plans currently to bring GTA V to PC’s but we all believe that to be a lie –  so the question is when will the PC master race get the game?

Well according to Chris Silva, Director of Marketing for Intel’s Premium Notebooks, GTA V should be landing on PC’s very soon. According to Chris

At least with Grand Theft Auto I don’t think it’ll be console exclusive very long. But that’s what happens when you have a brand new launch with two companies that have lots of money trying to make sure they have content

Let’s tackle the first thing first though. Chris is the marketing lead for Intel’s premium notebooks. Now as impressive as that is I seriously doubt Rockstar would choose that niche market to explain what their plans are so I don’t think Chris has any more insider knowledge than any of us.

But more interestingly Chris also thinks Sony and Microsoft have paid for console exclusivity. Now we know Microsoft often pays for DLC exclusivity or even full title exclusivity but I simply can’t see Microsoft and Sony coming to an agreement to both pay to avoid PCs getting the game.

So does this mean that PC gamers aren’t going to be getting the game?

Not at all. I think Rockstar released on console first to avoid mass piracy and because they make a higher margin on consoles. GTA IV landed on consoles first and then released onto PC’s 6 months later and I expect Rockstar to do exactly the same thing again.

If GTA V isn’t available on the PC by April next year I will truly be shocked. However if you are one of the many hoping for a pre-Christmas launch then I’m sorry – I seriously doubt that will happen. It just doesn’t make financial sense to rush it out the door when they can sell another couple of hundred thousand console copies and then get the PC Gamers to re-buy it when they release it on PC next year.

Oh and yes that is when I expect Grand Theft Auto V to release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well.

I still have hand cramps from fumbling with the controller playing Last of Us. As Captain Kirk would shout “SOOOOONNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYY!!!!!”

Edit: If you happen to mention that Spock actually shouted it I will slap you sooo hard.

lol yeah same here but it least it was a lot shorter than Demons Souls. That game gave me premature arthritis onset syndrome with a solid dose of carpal tunnel to boot. Only relief I got was tossing my controller at the tv occasionally in exasperation.

I mean, I’m just as much a gamer as the console boys and girls, and I don’t support piracy, but yet I’m labelled as someone who pirates and I don’t get the same privileges as the frat boys (hehe). I may sometimes sound like a pirate, but that’s only when playing some MP matches.

Well thats not your fault that the PC guys aint getting it, BUT, we all know that the Master Race does pirate the crap out of games. So unfortunately, your top of the range tech is the the problem here. It’s just too easy for PC guys to clone shit. Us console guys cannot do it as easily and if we do, well you cant go online. The console market is also bigger than the PC market and they make more moola, so they put their games where the mass revenue is. $1b in less than a week is pretty impressive for a game. You will get it, but not until April maybe May next year.

Let’s say, hypothetically, that pc gaming becomes extinct. You really think no one will pirate anymore? It’ll just shift to consoles. It’s easier to pirate on pc’s, but when that option isn’t there anymore they’ll start mass pirating on consoles.

But gaming on PC just flows, you have much more control and speed.

My brother is one of those “master race” pc gamer. He got a ps3 and i asked him if he wants to try my GTA5 so long. He’s reply was a quick NO. I asked him “but WHY…….” the answer i came up with.Pc gamer’s don’t really know how to play with a controller or feel comfortable playing with one. I could be wrong but that my personal opinion. The last of us must hurt the most if they really knew what they where missing out on!!

” I think Rockstar released on console first to avoid mass piracy.”

This is a joke, right? Please tell me it is. Ironically, if that was the case (which it’s not), then they failed to prevent “mass piracy” because console gamers pirated the game days before it’s release and saw tens of thousands of them torrent it as well.

PC piracy is WAY worse… It is just easier to pirate on PC. This is mainly, because PC people tend to be more tech savvy. Mainly because we deal with errors and more problems than console users.

This is a solid theory and makes sense.

Please show me statistics. Otherwise, I call bullshit. I’ve never seen an actual coherent and systematic criminal investigation into the actual realm of digital piracy broken down by console/pc/fridge/microwave/sat dish. I think we’re all guessing.
Anyway. You can crack your console at the guy around the corner from my house. He is a mechanic. And he has never seen a mouse before (a real living one – not a PC one). ;D

Anyway. I will consider the route to the Caribbean if and when this title finally hits PC. Because no love from Rockstar makes me a sad and bitter Panda. And when we’re sad.. bitter.. and without Bamboo love.. we’re less than moral!

lol! It would probably be insanely hard to investigate and yeah we are all guessing.

Honestly I base this guess on the fact that if it was available on PC on release then I might have pirated it, but this damn wait and angsty feeling will make me pay for it. So they have converted me from pirate to buyer.

I find it to be a safe assumption based on some good old logic.

I don’t know… I am going Watch Dogs and then GTA and of course Diablo 3 Exp collectors…

AC has always been a console game to me… Never played it on Pc though. Does it handle well with KB and mouse?

Those are some nice choices! I’m insanely jealous. The D3 collectors ought to be nice. I’m looking forward to the expansion as well.

I’ve had all the AC games on PC and they’ve all handled generally well. I’ve never had a complaint. They weren’t all just ports, most actually had some work done on them for PC.

But actually there are TONS of games I want to play man. I think I will give AC a chance on PC. The only thing limiting me is my budget 🙁

I really do wish the PC version lands before Christmas! Even if it has to use that horrible Games for Windows live

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere MS is starting to phase out GfWL.

I actually remember something like that as well. I just thought of it due to the header image. Dammit that was a horrible system. Made playing Arkham City a bitch

I will actually not mind what crappy system they use to make the game more difficult to pirate, as long as they can put some plans together to bring it to pc.

More difficult for legal owners of the game to play. Pirates don’t have DRM problems.

True. What if they do a Steam release only? No hardcopy games. Surely that’ll make the game more difficult to pirate.

Don’t know. I read an interview with one of the guys from CD Projekt Red & they asked him about piracy of The Witcher 2. He said the bulk of the pirated copies originated from disk, not the DRM-free version on GoG.

My theory also word for word…

It will especially not launch before Xmas since they want to also get the sales for consoles versions maxed out.

I am REALLY hoping for a January or February launch, but April is probably more realistic.

Looks like in these times, if you want the best of everything, you need all three platforms, PC, Xbox, PS

I originally predicted that Rockstar will announce the PC version of GTAV simultaneously with the next-gen version, and I’m sticking to it.
