Guitar Hero 5, despite its name, will not be the fifth Guitar Hero game. It’s been preceded by at least seventy-thousand titles bearing the guitar Hero epithet. It’s easy to see why Activision are bleeding this franchise dry; It’s netted them over $2 Billion in revenues. Shows how many people have inner rockstars they’re desperately trying to unleash.
The third full-band game from Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Metallica developers sets out to change a few things though – There are new modes and features to specifically cater to party play; and area where the genre really shines. Party Play Mode lets people join in songs mid-game as well as switch instruments and difficulty levels on the fly, while the new Fest mode lets players battle each other at home or online for top scores. Four people can play at home and eight can play online in this competitive mode that uses momentum points. Miss a note in competition and you’ll lose momentum – correctly hit the next 20 notes to recoup it.
Interestingly, the game will allow for any combination of instruments when playing multiplayer. All four of you want to be lead guitarists? Go right ahead. Drum Battles? Yes Please! 4 People singing? Errr…maybe not.
The game will include tracks by the likes of Tom Petty (Runnin Down a Dream) and the White Stripes (Blue Orchid), The Rolling Stones (Sympathy for the Devil), Bob Dylan (All Along The Watchtower), Santana (No One To Depend On), Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire) and Kings of Leon (Sex on Fire) – but the inclusion of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition†makes it a must-buy.
See the full track list after the jump, but be aware : the list is as yet unconfirmed

As far as I’m aware, AC/DC is currently exclusive to the Rock Band series.
