Halo-BeaHero

Those poor folks in Haiti have got it pretty bad. The 7.0 scale earthquake and the subsequent aftershocks that violently  the Caribbean Island country, leaving it in ruins – and hundreds of thousands dead. It’s left even more injured, and up to a million people homeless. The scale of the disaster is of bibilical proportions, and frankly they need all the help they can get.

Bungie have stepped up to the plate, and given gamers the opportunity to aid relief efforts in the torn nation. It’s easy too, all you have to do is play Halo 3 on Xbox live until 12 am PST (10 a.m tomorrow morning, in local time).

Bungie will make a donation of $100 for every thousand heroes that participate to Red Cross for Haiti relief efforts, up to a maximum of $77,000. To be recognised online as a “Hero,” you’ll need to set your Spartan to use a specific emblem. It’s this easy :

1. Round up all of your friends and hop online with Halo 3 or ODST any time next from 00:01AM PST Wednesday, 1/20, through 23:59PM PST Thursday 1/21.

2. Edit your appearance settings so your character is wearing the RED HEART emblem.

a. Press START
b. Select “SETTINGS” / “APPEARANCE”
c. Select “EMBLEM”
d. Select “Hearts” ICON, “Circle” BACKGROUND
e. Back out to the APPEARANCES menu and select “COLORS”
f. Set “EMBLEM PRIMARY” to RED (or MAROON / BRICK / ROSE depending on which game you’re playing!)
g. Set “EMBLEM SECONDARY” to WHITE

3. Once your emblem is set, play! This can be a custom game or a matchmaking game, just make sure it’s played online, on Xbox LIVE, or we can’t track it.

If playing Halo isn’t your thing – and it’s not mine, lemme tell you – you can also help out by buying pretty much anything from the Bungie online store. From now until February, Bungie will be donating 100% of profits from their 1st party apparel and accessories to the American Red Cross.

Read more over at Bungie, and start playing Halo.

this is very worthy cause and almost makes me want to get halo 3.
buuuut, i do find the irony of running killing your virtual enemies (and causing general mayhem) somewhat off-putting.

the t-shirt looks cool, might get one of them.

A very worthy cause, and I congratulate Bungie for it, but Halo isn’t my style. I’d rather go naked into a prison cell in Pollsmoor Prison than play Halo.

I will most definitely play for a little bit tonight. C’mon guys, someone is asking you to play a game in order to help donate money to people who have just had their lives stripped from them.

It couldn’t be easier to help out people who are suffering

Hey, you’re Bobby Kotick, why aren’t you donating a zillion dollars anyway? Does the gold plated Ferrari need a service?
