Half Life 2 was a fantastic game when it arrived several years. Taking the solid architecture of the original game and expanding on that, it was a challenging FPS title that was followed by two more successful episodes. And then it just dropped off the face of the earth.

Fans have been begging developer Valve for years now as to whether or not anything is being done with regards to a sequel of some sort. Valve has been characteristically mum on the subject, which has prompted a group of Half-Life gamers to get together to send a message towards the developer, in a method that will show them that they are still waiting patiently for the sequel to arrive.

And they’re going to use Half-Life 2 to do it.

Over 29 000 Steam users, all belonging to the group A call for Community, have signed up so far for a Saturday that will be spent shooting and blasting one another in some good ol’ Half-Life 2 multiplayer.

It’s a method of protest that the group hopes will get the attention of Valve, as opposed to flooding their servers with angry emails, resulting in a more appreciattive way to remind the developer that people are anxious to hear of any news regarding the fate of the Half-Life franchise.

“Instead of focusing efforts in a negative and disrespectful way, we have decided to gain Valve’s attention by delivering a basic message: Your oldest and longest running fanbase would like better communication,” the group says on their Steam Community page.

Sounds like a worthy cause to join, and of course, it goes without saying how great the Half-Life 2 multiplayer experience still is, after so many years of being available. If you’re keen to join in on the event, it starts 7PM GMT.
