Halo Reach Beta to Shift copies of Halo ODST

HaloReach

Stephen McGill, Microsoft’s UK Xbox boss believes that the inclusion of the Halo: Reach Beta on every copy of Halo: ODST will help sell the game to Halo fans. In related news, water is wet, governments are corrupt, and I use a lot of hand lotion.

“The only way to access this beta will be through the Halo 3: ODST disc, so we feel there’s another extremely compelling reason for both fans and newcomers to the franchise to experience Halo 3: ODST,” McGill, said in an interview with MCV.

“We saw the success of this mechanic with the Halo 3 multiplayer beta that came on the Crackdown game disc and the continued sales momentum and excitement generated around that title throughout its lifecycle, and we fully expect Halo 3: ODST to exceed that achievement.”

The included beta will, much like with Crackdown, artificially increase sales. Does this mean Microsoft think the overpriced expansion pack game isn’t good enough to sell on its own merits?

“Does this mean Microsoft think the [overpriced expansion pack] game isn’t good enough to sell on its own merits?”
Can I call this site PS3 biased now?

Why pass the opportunity to make the game even more compelling by adding the beta access? Why the negative spin?

Most halo fanatics will buy this just because it is halo.

So how many beta players do they want for reach, as this will sell 5 Million + by end of year.

    Expansions don’t come on 2 discs 😉

Gamers are weird. Only a gamer would buy something half complete, instead of wait for the final thing. Look at the Reach beta, GT5:Prologue and Assassins Creed (Don’t you dare call that a “full” game)

I wouldn’t call it a negative spin. its quite obvious that its a selling technique rather than an actual normal beta.

beta’s are used to test a game. when you bundle it with a game then its clearly being used to help that game out.

the question mark at the end of the statement negates you from calling this site PS3 biased. and well one article will never change lazygamer’s slight bias :ninja:

I understand what a beta is and why it’s bundled with ODST (to help sales obviously). But calling it an overpriced expansion pack and saying msoft thinks this game isn’t good enough to sell on it’s own is a negative spin.
I just think LG should leave the opinions for the people in the comments section and not the actual article. Just my 2 cents.

Calling it an overpriced expansion pack was a reference to the mini-furore that happened when the game got bumped up to $60 from its original $40 dollar price point when it outgrew its status as an expansion pack.

    It was a joke.

You can read more of the history of it here : http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=85430

    and here : http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=625833

The entire last sentence was a joke – it’s Halo and it’s obviously going to sell bajillions, and of course Microsoft don’t think that it “needs” the beta to sell.
