Halo: Reach Review Round Up

HaloReach

So the international Reach embargo has been lifted and the scores are flooding in. Unfortunately being down south we don’t seem to have been included in this early review batch which is annoying but we’re working on remedying this for any future major launches.

Or at least whining incessantly about it to the publishers, either way we are being heard. But enough of that, lets see how one of the biggest releases of the year has been received.

Publisher Score
1UP A+
GamePro 5 Stars
Joystiq 5 Stars
IGN 95
Eurogamer 90
GameTrailers 93
CVG 92
Videogamer 90
Giant Bomb 4 Stars
Games Radar 8/10

And here’s some multiplayer action courtesy of Destructoid

So all in all it’s received some outstanding scores which really is no surprise, mine should hopefully land on my doorstep in the morning and I cannot wait to get into the co-op aspect of the game… the screaming ignorant children however are not quite as appealing.

Much like with Modern Warfare 2, the initial reviews are going to be stellar, which will fuel sales. It will seem like Halo Reach is a godsend, until a few days after launch, when the “real” reviews come out, and the game is hammered for its generic storyline, incredibly short game play, inane characterization and the unbalanced multiplayer (which is plagued with cheaters, bots and script kiddies).

You know I’m speaking the truth!

You blesphemer how dare you say such about so sacred chosen one of all gaming.Burn, burn you at the square we will! Personally as Xbox gamer I still don’t get Halo as whole All I hear 343 guilty sparks, ONI this ONI that the covernant none of that means anything to me. Infact the only Halo game that actually drew me in was Halo Wars I really enjoyed it and the story kinda made sense. I more of a Gears and Mass Effect guy.

But MW2 is one of the top played games across all platforms so maybe the initial reviews were correct?

And yet it had the stupidest story ever and the multiplayer was/is littered with bugs and cheaters. Those initial reviews were the result of reviewers not completing the game, and trying to get their reviews out as soon as possible. Activision scammed them and us, because the “No Russian” level is great. The failings of the game is only clear 2 or 3 hours thereafter, when the plot holes become gaping wounds and you wonder to yourself.. “What the fuck is this shit?”

I actually enjoyed the story, it was cheesy but that’s all I wanted from a FPS. I reviewed it and gave it a 9.4 and before the usual comments arrive I would just like to say that my copy was a retail one and we received no pressure to give that sort of score.

It was good clean fun and well worth the money

What ASSious is trying to say, is that he would love to wear his mother’s clothes right now, but sadly his xbot ass is too big, because there’s an xbox 360 wedged inside his colon…

Assious, you’ll need Kinect to loose that weight, bru!

Cheese is good in moderation, but nowhere on the box did it say, this game will be like a 1990s Chuck Norris movie, with extra fat Steven Seagal thrown in for added egg. I’m pretty sure Tom Clancy would pop his left testicle at the idiocy of Modern Warfare 2.

Ah but for me that’s exactly it.. I love the Tom Clancy games but at the same time I was under no illusion that MW2 was going to be your typical American hero game with very little basis in reality.

The story was nothing special and if I was reviewing it purely on it’s story it would have fell flat but the story in my opinion was fun and enjoyable and that made it an easy game to play through.

Then they should have called it American Soldier, or Soap’s Box, or whatever B-grade movie title you can think of. Modern Warfare sounds as though it’s a serious game for serious minds, who would like a serious and mindblowing experience.

All this talk about MW2 having a suck story makes me feel a tad less intelligent: I thought the story was great! It felt like a movie. Unfortunately it was almost the length of a movie, relatively speaking.

I haven’t played Halo that much before, but for some reason I just can’t wait till tomorrow! Watching the multiplayer videos provides trip down memory lane when I used to LAN the original Unreal Tournament.

How the heck am I supposed to study for MBA exams now? :dizzy:

Great news for Halo fans. I will wait to see whats happening with local Live + pricing structure before i decide whether to get this. Halo 3 was a bit lukewarm for my liking and like someone above said Halo Wars was more enjoyable but hopefully Reach is better.

As for the Modern Warfare discussion abvove i agree with some that these reviewers ( Im not talking about Gavin as i did not read his review so chill out ppl ) race through and forget to mention stuff like the online will need months of patches to get working properly. The same happened with Gears and Socom.

Problem with that, specifically with MW2 is that the online issues only became very apparent, and bad, after quite a while, so its something reviewers wouldnt really know about at first, even if they waited two weeks. The only thing to do in that situation is to post on the news about the issues and/or possibly looking at doing an updated review at a later stage.

On the real though Halo Reach seems in alot of ways more beefed up than any halo game before it and even for a none Halo fan and someone who generally is not that much into online gaming its a game worth a purchase.I already pre ordered mine on Kalahari I should be getting later on this week.Oh and for the record I loved MW2 perhaps not as much as I did MW, the Captain Price and Soap combination is priceless(pun not intended) two Brits out to save the world, again..
