Halo Reach To Be "Huge Leap" Over Previous Titles

Do you know much about Halo Reach? Yeah, me neither.

What I do know is that the game will be getting its premiere next week at the VGAs and according to Spike’s Geoff Keighley, this game is going to rock our world.

Last week on Major Nelson’s podcast he made some pretty bold claims about Reach, one of which is that he thinks “it’s going to be the biggest game of next year by far”. He also says that gamers will see the “huge leap forward Bungie’s taking with Reach”.

Earlier this year I wrote a post about how games like Killzone 2 could force Microsoft to up their game and stop releasing tired rehashes (yeah, so I’m not the biggest Halo fan OK) that look don’t look so great and aren’t even able to run at 720p. I can’t say that I was correct but what I can say is that it’s about damn time that Bungie stepped up to the plate and actually released something new, something special and something that really kicks Halo into this generation.

If you think that Halo 3 was a big enough step (forge and all that) then I’m cool with that but respectfully disagree. Bungie are supposed to be one of the best developers out there, I want to see them proove it with something that will make our jaws drop and our hearts pound.

Let’s hope that Reach is all that and then some. What do you guys want to see from Reach? Anyone got a wishlist?

  1. Major Nelson’s claim that Reach will be next year’s biggest isn’t actually that big of a claim. What could possibly stand in its way? Not Treyarch’s CoD. Maybe something by Blizzard but who’s counting PCs?

Halo is what it is, I’ve realised. You either love it, or you don’t. I don’t mind the SP. The MP, however, is grossly overrated.

Do you think Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 will be out only a year after the previous ones? Highly unlikey methings, although there are still going to be some great games next year. God of War 3, Mass Effect 2, hell maybe even some games that dont have a number after their titles

Killzone 2 was released at the start of 2009 and Resistance 2 was at the end of 2008. So if they spend 2 years working on the sequals both games could easily be out by the end of 2010. Remember, Uncharted 2 took only 18 months to make. Game development goes a lot faster when they already have an engine to work with.

Besides, Sony must have some established franchises lined up for the 2010 holiday season. Since most of their 2010 releases will be out in the first half of the year.

And kilzone2 and resistance 3 will
combined sell less than 1/2 of halo reach.

            Halo is just a beast

See I’m not a gfx guy, never have been. A game could look like it was excreted from a dog’s bottom, but if it had an engaging universe, I would play it. And Halo had that in spades. It’s setting is just so rich.
Plus the cinematic style of setpieces that we see now in games such as COD4, wasn’t nowhere near as commonplace back in the day. Halo was really the game (on consoles) that showed people how it could be done.

It is not difficult for the next Halo to be a huge leap over the previous one. Lets face it, when Halo 3 was released, it was never technically brilliant and ODST is just showing the age of that same engine.

One question to all the people who keep shouting graphics over gameplay : Have you ever played a game that had good graphics ,but crap gameplay? Cause I certainly haven’t.

When a claim like this goes down I fear for how bad the game is going to be.

I enjoyed Halo 3’s SP campaign (aside from the parts where you had to go back the way you came) I can’t say the same for KZ 2 which I am trying to play at the moment
