Some sharp eyes at Connected Consoles spotted something rather strange in one of the leaked Halo Reach direct feed screenshots that we have already seen.
Did you see it? I know I didn’t. Now that you have the opportunity, take a look at that image and tell me what in the heck that crosshair is doing there? The folks from Connected Consoles seem to think that it could be proof that the game will support Project Natal.
I think that they might be right.
Unlike conventional first person shooters that almost always have the crosshair plastered right in the middle of the screen, we can clearly see what looks to be a crosshair sitting off to the side of the image.
This is usually the sort of thing that you see for first person shooters that are controlled with some sort of motion controller. Now, unless Halo Reach will be coming out on the yet to be announced Wii HD, I think that this could very well be due to Natal support.
What do you guys think of the idea? I know that the lazy gamer (umm, yeah) in me doesn’t like the idea of waving my arms around during multiplayer sessions, well, unless I am swearing and moaning at bastard campers.
We will have to wait and see what kind of announcements come out of Microsoft soon, I have a feeling that this years E3 is going to be pretty interesting.

Or maybe because they haven’t finished the coding there are bugs with the cross hair…

Maybe it’s just a next objective marker or something. The gun isn’t even pointing towards it.

Yeah but that’s the point, with a motion controller game the gun lags behind, following the pointer around the screen.

It looks a little “doctored” to me, notice how the cursor pixelation is different to the background, almost as if someone used an image processor?

Here’s a link to the original image before anyone noticed the cursor.
Yeah it could still be doctored but it wasn’t doctored by the guys who spotted it.

Actually it’s exactly like that on Bungies site. http://www.bungie.net/projects/reach/images.aspx?c=59&page=1
I doubt they would edit the image…

Why would you want movement detection in a FPS ? Time crisis 4 tried to do this with part of their game but it is quite lame.

If that cross hair is controlled by a person using natal then why is the gun in that picture not pointing towards that cross hair???

As I said above, it’s because in many motion controlled shoots the gun follows the crosshair with a bit of delay, so you point, then it follows

that sounds frustrating. even when i’m mid swing trying to find my target, i want to know exactly where the crosshair is pointing… at all times. i don’t want to guess whats happening to my aim between its current position and my desired position, even for a split second.
maybe i’m missing the point :dizzy:

That headhoncho from Nintendo did (presumably) turn down the precursor of Natal primarily because of the lag, maybe this is what they meant.
Anyway, I’m still convinced it’s a doctored image.

Perhaps its a free look system like the one found in Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, ArmA 1, and ArmA 2? It might use Natal to track head movement and allows you to look around while aiming at another another direction?
Example:
