Has Xbox replaced Sony as the home of JRPGs?

Xbox jrpg exclusive

My previous console purchasing decisions all followed a similar line of reasoning. It wasn’t that I was a Sony fan girl, but rather that I became one by default because of all the exclusive JRPGs released on the platform. Granted, there were notable exceptions such as Lost Odyssey, but as a general rule it seemed that Xbox focused on shooters while PlayStation was all about the RPGs. However, that tendency might be shifting.

Over on Pure Xbox, two new JRPGs have been announced, and they are Xbox One exclusives. One is scheduled to launch in Q1 2016 while the other isn’t quite nailed down but expected sometime between 2016 and 2017.

I am curious to follow this trend of which games end up as PlayStation exclusives as compared to Xbox One exclusives. Final Fantasy has already shifted from being a PlayStation exclusive to being cross platform, and plenty of other JRPGs are opting instead to release on 3DS and Vita instead of PS4 or Xbox One. However, I think the demand is still out there for massive scale JRPGs – just look at all the excitement around FFXV. There is potential for JRPGs to make a come back, and maybe even help to sell consoles again, but they would have to be something really special. Perhaps the Final Fantasy VII remake will help during its timed release, but it’s true exclusives that really make a difference.

Did one genre or another help to sway you towards a specific console, or was it all about the hardware capabilities? Both consoles have a strong lineup of games coming; it will be increasingly difficult to choose between the two.

Meh. I can’t go a week without some indie JRPG hipster twaddle thrust into my face on Steam.

The market is almost entirely handheld these days. If you want JRPGs on your telly, get a Vita TV.

What about the news articles that showed how poorly the Xbox One did in Japan?

AND is it not a case of these two games not wanting to compete in a certain market space and are using this to drum up media coverage?

If Microsoft want to shift hardware in Japan, they need to make a handheld. It is the main way the people in Japan get their game on. Just do a little Googling and you will see the Vita outselling the might PS4 in Japan. Or at least that was the case the last time I checked. The DS/3DS kicks everybody’s ass in Japan.

sorry to say this, not portable because MS never wanted to be in the portable gaming space, try to attempt and did not work inside the company and they rejected a Xbox portable product, instead shift on focus on Mobile gaming like it or not, its proved to be more successful than portable gaming devices which Microsoft has with its mobile platform with Xbox integration on smartphones and tablets an ecosystem in the mobile space which both Nintendo and Sony don’t have and it’s already successful with Apple iPhones and Google Androids, and this will shift well for them in Japan where as portable gaming and consoles will go down in Japan, mobile gaming is booming there. Don’t believe me, look for yourself if you living in Japan and look at the market of gaming in mobile for Japan and other Asian markets.

So, 2 mediocre looking JRPG’s are coming to Xbox, and about 20 are coming to PS4. How is Xbox replacing Sony?
