Hatred has done well riding the internet groundswell of controversy. It’s hard for an indie to get attention – with so many out there that could appeal to such a specific audience, it’s difficult to curate indie gaming. Hatred got publicity due to outrage over its ultra-violent content, and that’s working out well for them.
If you head on over to Steam, you can pick up Hatred for a mere $20. Many people seem to be doing so considering that it’s already selling better than GTA V or The Witcher 3 – not too bad for an Adult-Only indie title. Obviously the rating hasn’t hurt sales on Steam, despite the fact that it’s not even allowed to be sold in Germany or Australia. In a press release sent to me, Jaroslaw Zielinski, Destructive Creations’ Creative Director said:
We want to thank everyone who took part in this enormous effort. Especially all our fans and supporters who were so patient and helpful during the game production! As from now on you can wander the outskirts of New York city and test your shooting skills in a very challenging twin-stick shooter!

I know that this game has sparked a ton of controversy and I totally support it getting an Adult Only rating. However, it still looks like a game that I’d enjoy playing. I like twin-stick shooters and this looks like a darker one that I would have fun with. Plus, I think for us to assume that only by playing as a good character can we learn morality is ignorant; sometimes by stepping into the shoes of a killer we can understand a bit more about why society breeds such broken people. Then again, I have been spending far too much time overseas lately…

Meh, Grindcore, Deathcore even ( what used to be my favourite ) Metalcore all sounds the same to me now -> cannot do it anymore 🙁
What I’ve migrated to is ( Melodic ) Death Metal and Viking/Folk Metal 😀

Waited patiently on steam and bought it as soon as it was realeased. Its fun like postal was back in the day, getting into police cars and going to different locations and blowing it away. Destructible environments, variety of guns, different locations etc. You execute wounded people to get health back and the police come in droves to gun you down. Does this make me wanna go out and kill people? No it does not. Is it fun? Yes and its different from the CoD clones every year. Thats what counts. The. Game. Is. Fun. ” I won’t play this because its way too violent” —-> but its ok to steal people’s cars and kill prostitutes and run them over and shoot people on the street in gta? Its just a game……grow up

Excuse me, I would like to know why Mortal Kombat X is rated M for Mature, but Hatred, with far less actual violence and gore, somehow deserves an AO rating. I’m fairly certain beating a single individual to near-death with fists and various weapons, then disemboweling them, tearing their head off, burning them alive, or using any other genuinely grotesque finishing move is far more worthy of Adults Only than Hatred‘s relatively tame depiction of top-down spree shooting with the occasional execution (which, when compared to MK’s finishers, are almost all quick and painless deaths).

I think today’s games really lack this type of graphic display of violence and gore. Games like GTA V that are often accused of being very violent actually aren’t. I wish GTA V would spend as much time on NPC models and how you can shoot,stab.kill,break them in various ways as they do on their car models.
