Haze – First Impressions

After rAge this past weekend, I must say, I shall be keeping my eye on this game. The Megarom stand had all its latest games on demo and showcase, part of which were Ubisoft games. I really hold Ubisoft in high regards as one of the best game developers if not the best game developer in the modern world today.

At the Ubisoft part of the Megarom stand they had games such as Blazing Angels 2: The secret missions of WWII, the Assassin’s Creed E3 demo and then they had Haze. Now for those people who own a PS3 you are in for a treat, though the game is still in development it looks absolutely amazing. The gameplay for a demo is fluid and the visuals and sounds on that HDTV really made it stand out. Overall it really felt like a must get game.

The story revolves around a substance called Nectar, it is a type of stimulant that makes you more aware, faster and stronger. Though overdosing on the stuff causing you to go into a rage where you shoot anything and everything. You also play on the rebel side where you are against, for the lack of a better word, the bumblebee squads.

The game looks and feels truly amazing, lets just hope Ubisoft with its magic is able to do it justice and pull it through. I might actually consider getting a PS3 for this game.

This game looked great albeit a tad over glossy for my liking at Rage. Apparently featuring COOP play it will have to struggle against the likes of Orange Box, CoD 4 and Assasin’s Creed. Could this be a silent PS3 hit?

Wow, it’s been said before but I’ll say it again. It’s a great time to be a gamer!! Lots of (potentially) great games on the horizon.

Well, these are the guys who made Goldeneye 007 for the N64. If you’ve played it, you’ll understand. If you haven’t, sorry you missed out on what may be the greates console FPS ever…word of advice, though, don’t retroactively seek it out – the controls are over 10 years old and will feel dated.

Furthermore, Haze has been in the PS3’s and Ubisoft’s spotlight for quite a while. Though the fanfair received isn’t as phenomenal as…say…COD4, people do have an eye open for this title.

Just in case anyone found Xennox’s comment a little ambiguos and confusing – you fight as a Mantel Soldier (the ‘bumble bee’ team, as he calls it ) and at some point, you defect to the rebels your team is fighting against.

Furthermore, the multiplayer is assymetrical – meaning that fighting as the two opposite teams gives you two opposite experiences and tools. The thing with assymetrical multiplayer is that it’s nice in principle but rarely works and apparently the Free Radical Team (the guys who are developing it – Ubisoft is just the publisher) has got it spot on. I could go on, but rather just google the previews.

I have my eyes peeled for this one…
