Hearthstone’s next expansion will introduce Death Knights, out next month

Hearthstone’s expansions are becoming more frequent affairs as Blizzard adopts a model that Magic: The Gathering players will recognise far too well. With Standard and Wild decks becoming commonplace a steady stream of new cards and effects is needed, which is good news if you’re super invested into the digital card game. Next month will see the introduction of a whole new phase of Heroes, as the Death Knights invade the Tavern in Knights of the Frozen Throne.

The expansion, which should launch next month, features nine new Legendary cards that transform each of the game’s Heroes into Death Knight versions of themselves. With that comes new powers and attributes, including Lifesteal abilities, Frozen armour and the badass feeling that comes standard with being a cold-hearted undead being from WarCraft. You can check some of it out in action from the official reveal trailer below.

Aside from the Death Knights, Knights of the Frozen Throne will feature 135 new cards that you can use to ascend the new campaign, the Icecrown Citadel. The first wing will be free as usual, with the entire campaign hosting a couple of boss battles that will reward you with Death Knight transforming cards. And it wouldn’t be a Death Knight expansion without a face-to-face confrontation with the Lich King himself. Easily the most recognisable and enigmatic villain in all of the game’s lore (yes, I said it).

As usual you’ll be able to purchase 50 packs of cards for the standard $50 (Hearthstone is expensive still) ahead of the launch next month. Until then be sure to occupy yourself with the many ways in this will wreck your current preferred meta.
