Hearthstone is a beautifully balanced game. Sure there are cards here and there that spark some debate, but the act of logging on, pairing with an opponent and waging digital battle is complemented with a balanced, seamless experience. The game even shuns players who are taking too long to make their move – although there’s nothing it can do about this ridiculous recording breaking one.
In an attempt to annihilate a Hearthstone World Record, one player is currently taking a turn that should last a full 43 hours to complete. Hearthstone fanatic Mamytwich has figured out how to essentially break the collectible card game, without breaking any of the rules. A clever combination of cards and repetitive stacking (along with a willing victim) has allowed him to set up this ridicoulus turn.
Playing as a Mage, Mamytwitch has filled his board with Prophet Velens, which increase the number of missiles an Arcane Missile card usually fires. Buff those Prophets up enough though, and that number starts increasing exponentially. So with the board stacked and nine Arcane Missiles played in a single turn, the record is basically breaking itself at the moment. You can even watch via the stream below.

Obviously, this isn’t something Blizzard is going to have to worry about patching out anytime soon. This type of trick takes an incredible amount of setup, that probably required the help of his opponent (without Ice Block, it wouldn’t work at all). There’s almost no chance at all that someone could pull something like this off in a proper, competitive game, so it’s all really for show.
And while the record itself is mind-blowing, being a spectator to it is pretty dull. It’s just the same animation over and over again, but hey kudos to Mamytwitch for doing the math and figuring this out. I can’t wait to see challenges to this in the future.

Yeah me too. In arena you can get more than 2 of a card, but multiple prohet valens…. I cry foul!

Card stealing cards? Ie: taking from your opponents deck?

I thought about it, you can clone an existing one a few times, and maybe pull one or two from the other guys deck, but dayum, that’s a stupid amount of setup….

Yeah, it really is. Still, it’s a world record attempt. Normal conditions don’t apply here XD

The two decks are crafted to work together to pull this off, and he is playing againts himself. Look at the setup video, http://www.twitch.tv/mamytwink/v/3940340
Its a bit tough to follow since almost everything is in french

Ok wait wait wait…. Hold up…..
So Velens’ card reads “Double the damage and healing of your spells and hero power”
Arcane MIssile reads “Deal 3 damage randomly split among enemy characters”
Right. So how does buffing up the Velens cause arcane missile to do even more?
As it stands just on those 2 cards alone it means:
3 to the power of 7
so
Velens 1) 3×2 = 6
Velens 2) 6×2 = 12
Velens 3) 12×2= 24
Velens 4) 24×2 = 48
Velens 5) 48×2 = 96
Velens 6) 96×2 = 192
Velens 7) 192×2 = 384
So arcane missile would fire 384 missiles…. Hardly enough for so many hours.
Now I see the Velens cards have some crazy damage and defense. So I am assuming there are more cards to this than meets the eye? At least one of those cards needs to affect Arcane missile or Velens ability in someway to change it that the doubling of power changes to power of attack or something to make this possible where there are who knows how many thousands of missiles…. Or have I missed something?
What spell cards did he use to make Velens change the way its power affects Arcane missile?

AHA! Ok I see… Ok now it makes more sense. That +1 spell power makes a massive difference then. Nice…

Lol. I love me some card games. I remember the days of Magic the Gathering and a multiplayer game where we had to account for thousands of saprolings… It was tough math man. I think at one point we just said “we attack with…. crap tons of stuff!”

I recently got back into hearthstone and its honestly one of the greatest games of all time for me. Also the fact that its portable and cross platform is amazing.

I love the fact that playing head to head online isn’t as daunting as other games. Matchmaking is really good in Hearthstone

It took this guy around 25 minutes to setup the whole thing. Its actually quite impressive and very lucky that he didn’t kill himself. His “oppenent” is himself. He used a second PC at the back of the room .
