Fantasia

The Xbox one is getting 15 exclusives in its launch period – 8 of which are brand new IP’s. This isn’t one of those games – but it is exclusive! It’s the new game from Rockband and Dance Central creators Harmonix – and it’s based, apparently loosely, on Disney’s Fantasia – blending music and motion together.

When I first heard of the idea, I was actually quite intrigued. I have fond memories of being spellbound by Mickey Mouse as the sorcerer’s apprentice, and rotund hippopotamuses doing ballet to La Gioconda’s Dance of the Hours – with visuals seamlessly matching classical music in an era when music videos weren’t quite as prolific as they are now.

A videogame, based on that masterpiece, using the technology we have now? I was completely on board. Until I saw the trailer.

Now I love Harmonix, and I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt – but what the hell did I just watch – and what on earth has that got to do with Fantasia?

The game, Fantasia: Music Evolved, is inspired by the film and will feature that movie’s sorcerer, Yen Sid. you’ll be his new apprentice, remixing songs with your body in real time. It’ll feature music from over 25 artists including AVICII, Bruno Mars, Fun, Kimbra, and Queen – and will be out on Xbox 360 and Xbox One some time next year.

It promises to be fresh and original – but I have to say, it reminds me an awful lot of Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s Child of Eden – which is still probably the best game to successfully use Kinect’s motion tracking to enhance the experience.

For our generation. The 50million American school children who kill each other everyday on social murder FPS games are the NEXT GEN. Screw the other 30million offline gamers.

All they need is 20miliion XBOX LIVE accounts to carry on grinning to the bank.

THE CRASH IS HERE. Only in a different light.

The Washing powder adverts have taken over.

Ok, so if it’s coming out on the XBox 360 as well then obviously the game isn’t using the new kinec tech to its fullest either. So not something I’d be marketing to try and sell a new console.

This will sell millions! Excellent marketing move from MS, especially throwing in the Disney name! I can just imagine showing this to my niece, she will go all Bieber on me and will keep nagging me until I buy her this! And yes I will , and yes I’ll also give it a go to proof to her that I’m not totally uncool! Another cash cow for MS and I don’t mind, in 2 years they’ll probably throw $3 billion towards Exclusives and new IP’s! Win win! Cash is king!
