Fallout 4 is just over a month and a bit away, and Bethesda has really started kicking in the gears to get its hype train moving. Despite only being officially revealed at E3 this year, Fallout 4 has had years of internet speculation to fuel interest in it, making Bethesda’s job a relatively easy one. It’s a true successor to Fallout 3 in many way, with the revamped Perk system, a new open-world and a lot more eye-catching visuals this time around.
Visuals that are being kept for only the newest console hardware, and presumably pretty good PC hardware too.
Thing is, we’re not exactly sure what you’re going to need in your rig to get Fallout 4 looking like the wasteland you want to get lost in, and Bethesda isn’t sure yet either. Optimisation usually takes place at this stage in development, which is why Bethesda only releases PC specs around a month or so before release. According to VP of PR, Pete Hines, that’s no different with Fallout 4.

Which means we should realistically expect that information in no less than two weeks – which gives you more than enough time to ponder which platform to pick. Fallout 4 is supposedly going to gobble around 28GB of HDD space (at least on the Xbox One), but Hines has warned that no size information has been confirmed either. It makes sense too – Fallout 4 has twice as many assets than Skyrim did, so the leaked file size did seem a bit on the small side.
Regardless, I don’t think it’s a factor that will prevent anyone who really wants to play Fallout 4 from doing so. Although (if you’re on console at least), it’s just another reminder of how silly both Sony and Microsoft were with their size estimates. Fallout 4 is out November 10th.

Picking it up next month since I never played the original games apart from 3 and NV, even though I have them on GOG, I think I’m spending over R450 for the shell.

Don’t let the graphics get in the way, game play is excellent mainly New vegas
Plus if you get the Anthlogy then mods will make things better

I agree with you.
I played Fallout 3 again recently and the graphics really don’t feel very old. Besides you can just download one of the texture mods if it bothers you too much.
The game itself is not worth skipping just because of graphics, you’ll be missing out if you do.

Agreed, Fallout 1&2 were amazing definitely two of my all time favourite games. You could literally have an intelligence of 1 and pretty much be incapable of speech yet still finish the game. I am all about the gameplay.

Give FO3 a go. As others have said you can get a texture pack, but the graphics really aren’t that bad. FO3 is the game most linked to FO4 (they are both east coast, while FO1,2 and NV are west coast), so if you just want to play one relatively recent game go for that. There is at least one mission that directly links to FO4 too so it is a good intro.
For the record though all the main Fallout games and New Vegas (which is directly related to the first two games) are excellent and well worth playing at some point.

Bethesda has never really gone overboard with this stuff. They know that graphics aren’t everything, different to other devs who think it’s 90% about the looks and 10% about the content.

I got New Vegas on Steam and even with all the DLC I ‘m sure it was only 2GB. Going on that a 25GB Fallout should be awesome.

It’s times like these I’m happy to be a dirty, filthily console gamer. Yes, we have our limitations such as being muggles, but I never need to look at what I have or need to play a new title. In the same sense I never get the new ram chip smell… I miss that.

Unless your console is last generation of course, then you’re just screwed. Personally I only update my gfx card every four years or so and as such I probably spend less than I would keeping up with consoles. Of course it probably helps I would have the computer anyway to do other things. The graphics card is purely for gaming though. Some people get carried away with how often the update. Fine for them, but never felt worth the cost to me.
Funnily enough my last update was when Skyrim came out, so I am about due for one.

if its optimized they will be decent.if its not it will be high.just look at the trend for AAA title releases.its shouldnt be much more then those if not abot the same.

Considering this game is coming out with good but not insane graphics I would expect you to need a i5 processor at 2.0ghz or better, a gtx 660 2gb or better, and 8gbs of DDR3 or 4 ramm. In order to be able to get the game to run at max settings at at least a consistent 25fps+.
