Here’s why Xbox Live still matters

XBL

In the face of PlayStation Plus, I’m struggling to keep coming up with valid reasons to renew my Xbox Live subscription every year. Yes, it’s still a more cohesive, intrinsic system than the PSN. How is Microsoft going to change that? How is it leveraging Xbox Live?

According to this promotional video which features spokespersons from first and third-party studios discussing the benefits of Xbox Live and the cloud.

Watch as people discuss things like Forza Motorsport 5’s  ridiculously named ‘cloud learning’ Driveretards  Driveatars, Battlefield 4’s Smartglass compatibility and how Killer Instinct’s can update itself in the background. Neat. Is it worth $60 a year though?

The Xbox One is launching this Friday in the US and UK. It retails for $499, but comes with a free cloud. No word yet on when the X1 will be available locally.

Xbox live isn’t THAT bad on the Xbox 360, but compared to PSN+, we’re getting screwed, badly.

I just don’t see why we have to pay subs to play online when we’re paying the amounts we do for games… rather let us play online, and make people who want to watch netflix, youtube, etc or whatever else they do (like getting old ass games) pay the subs.

I can understand the Multiplayer aspect, PS4 is heading that way too. It’s pricey to maintain a multiplayer server.

True, it is expensive, but you’re paying them good money anyway 😛

I just want to be able to play my games online without the subs… and no I’m not going 100% back to the failure race (PC) anytime soon

Yeah PC still wins in the multiplayer department. Especially now that PS4 is charging to play online. Do you need to pay extra to play COD online on PC. Not that I a m aware off. Plus COD is cheaper and you have LOL,DOTA and the new Warcraft game coming.

If I had to choose between COD, LOL, DOTA, or WoW, I’d always pick WoW hahaha

If a PS+ equivalent service was available on WIIU I would get one today. Seriously XBOX Live is stealing your money!

I bought Sanctum 2 online and Batman this month. If I didn’t win Metal Gear Rising I would have played that for free along with Remember Me. It’s madness. Even Battlfield 3 was free earlier this year.

So this “Drive-atar” thing… your driving style is analyzed in the cloud and then when you’re not playing it can compete on your behalf? Not trying to bag Forza here cause it looks quite good, but why would I even want this feature?

Imagine logging off for a few weeks and you log into Forza and your Drivatar has leveled you to max level without you! My rage-o-meter would be red-lining into the OVG zone.

It uses you as an AI driver for your friends to compete against, by analyzing your lines and style it makes it as if the are racing against a real opponent and not a bot. Not sure how well it works but could be cool if it works well.

Wtf is “the cloud”?? What is “Cloud Computing”?

Wouldn’t you need a huge-ass bandwidth for that to work?

      1) Big fluffy thing that apparently takes your cars for joy rides while you are sleeping.
      2) A very slow and laggy way to get anything done.
      3) Yes, but you live in ‘Merica right where big breasted woman bring milk, honey and bandwidth to your house and the Government would rather shut down than give the poor and medical insurance, right. Oh you don’t? You live in Africa, do they have lions walking in the streets? Hey do you know Abdul he was an exchange student from Morocco in my school?

Sony $50/yr., MS $60, Is it worth 16 cents a day? I guess I can’t answer the question as I can’t relate to someone that is worried about 16 cents per day!
