Here’s your first look at the One-Punch Man anime

one-punch-man-anime

I’ve mentioned before how much I adore the One-Punch Man manga. It’s the logical extreme of every Shonen comic ever made, as it stars a protagonist who has already transcended beyond being a mere mortal pugilist. One-Punch Man is essentially the god of punching.

The very bored god of punching, as his unlimited power means that there is nobody on the planet who is capable of being able to take more than one punch from him. Hence the silly name.

The manga has been a massive hit so far, so naturally it’s getting an anime adaptation. Here’s your first look at it:

That is some pretty sweet animation. The beauty of One-Punch Man, is that it juxtaposes the sheer lunacy of having godlike power with a mundane life. That’s a situation which hopefully frees up room in the budget for the animation to use the standard cheapskate methods of telling a story and then reserving the more expensive footage for the fight scenes.

Hopefully. Because the last thing I want to see is a One-Punch Man series with the animation quality of Fist of the Blue Sky/recent Dragon Ball Super episodes.

Oh, if you’re wondering who some of those other characters are in the trailer, they’re Hero Association members that include the likes of:

  • Terrible Tornado
  • Silverfang
  • Atomic Samurai
  • Child Emperor
  • King
  • Metal Knight
  • Zombieman
  • Drive Knight
  • Pig God
  • Superallow Blackluster
  • Flashy Flash
  • Tank-Top Master
  • Metal Bat
  • Puri-Puri Prisoner

Because Japan. One-Punch Man debuts in Japan on October 6. One punch!

the series is pretty muh one massive contradiction.
super simple story, a hero that is completely overpowered and comedy that makes gag manga look like it was written by stephen fry.
but with super serious and next level good art, its turned into pretty much the best thing out.

its funny, because after i read what there was of the remake, i went and read the original, with horrendous art, and the manga still kept me going back, i think you looked at thing the wrong way, its not contradiction, its a deconstruction, saitama is absurdly overpowered, every fight ends the same way and yet its incredibly fun to see whats going to happen next, the comedy is also good, since it works in the principle of the extrarodynary in the mundane… saitama is beyond what the people in his world can even imagine, and his looks also are extremely bland, its borderline lovecraftian in a sense.

of course comedy is something unique, some people may love it, others might hate it, but he did something very right since the manga became such an incredible success to the point of a high caliber artist like Murata to work with him.

sorry to be that guy but they really arent, contradiction, means doing the oposit of what you intended. deconstruction means many diferent things, but mostly could be sumed as using a set of rules and bending them to achieve a diferent answer.

i understand you did use it as a compliment, but the problem with the internet is that, what you post is what people will see, they cant really see intent, and as such others(like i did) will take that as a negative, since the word is normally(i would even say almost everytime) used as a negative thing.

again, semantics, nothing major, but still something to look out for.

actually, contradiction just means in opposition with itself. intention has nothing to do with it.

the series contradicts itself and that was its intention. the super silly tone and theme of the story, juxtaposed to the super serious and high quality art.
juxtaposition would have been a better term to use, but contradiction is not wrong.

normally, when it comes to authors and artists working together, youd assume theyd need to be similar. but in this case, the two contradict each other, in the best possible way.

if you say so, i still enjoy the original very much, its the thing about taste, you dont like it, and you place art abouve all else, to me, art is secondary, it may look like garbage, but if i enjoy its content, i will like it, but if it has an amazing design, but the style is not for me i wont bother.

example, one punch original, and vagabond, the first im really looking foward to the next chapter, while the remake, i just glimpse over every once in a while, and the second, i never was a fan, even if the art is one of the best around.

not saying im right and you are wrong. diferent people want diferent things, from diferent places, just asking for you to consider that, maybe to you the story is bad, but for other it might not be.

i can appreciate a good story, but this remastered one punch man pretty much represents the epitomy of manga to me.
didnt say i didnt like the story though, the story is ok, its no masterpiece, but the art is just so good, that it adds depth to the story that a well written scene never could.
the story is a gag story more than anything, but Muratas drawings turned it into a shounen.

as an artist myself (self proclaimed) i consider manga/comics a visual medium, so naturally i think the visual parts of it have the highest priority.

i will say this for the story, the setting and everything is super silly and simple, but the way that character depth has been brought out in the later chapters of the original is pretty great.
its a good example of what a story should do. good stories revolve around its characters and one punch man has interesting and strong characters.

on a side note, i think Vagabond is a weird one, it lost something during translation, alot of the stories from around that time did, and still do, dialogue and scripting felt a bit off. its a good comparison to the art of one punch man though, its brutal and unforgiving. but the style difference between the two is clearly a shounen vs seinin one, which i think is pretty interesting.

also i would like to point that im in no way saying that the art is any good in the original, the are basically scribbles, the remake, has amazing visuals, you probably saw them already, but, if not, you can see gifs, made with nothing but the art, and the way it flows, is jaw droping.

to me, a manga doesnt need to be amazing, but it need to give me, something that im looking for at that particular moment, the comedy reminds me, of a little discontinued manga i used to read, called my name is zushio, because,(and this is why i dont really agree its a contradiction, but intentional) the author uses the world with a set rules, that every one abides for, but for some reason, the MC lives outside, and the shock affects the others, and the comedy comes exactly of the absurdity, and the reaction (mostly of disbelife), from the others.

Gateway opens up in Japan and an army of fantasy creatures attack. Military might wins and Japans starts moving into the new unexplored area. Story is fairly complex though and the animation is excellent.

Nothing like bleach. Mostly comedy with no serious storyline. The main character is OP and no one can challenge him hence the name one punch man. Its mostly his interactions with others and personality that are his faults and plus the remake manga which the anime is based on has probably some of the best artwork around. So no style, story, etc. is nothing like bleach.

Weird i never received your notification reply in my gmail. I watched the first two episodes. I see what you mean. He really is overpowered. Makes me wonder how they made the manga last so long if his that overpowered. My friend told me he loves the manga and has been following it for quite a while. I told him its weird that his so overpowered cause wouldn’t that make you lose interest cause no one can beat him. He obviously said no and I should just check it out. The first two episodes was good. Like the mix of weirdness and comedy as well the main character. Im still going to check out the manga as well. He showed me some artwork and it really looks great. Thanks for the explanation

the mangas not really that long, the chapters are pretty short and the fights are, naturally, just as short.
and although saitama is the main character, most of the story doesnt revolve around him or his character.
his character is inserted into peoples lives and the story expands from there.

apart from that, the usual shounen thing goes on, with enemies getting progressively stronger, to the point that one needs more than one punch to defeat, forcing him to use his ultimate (thus far) “consecutive normal punches”

“so naturally it’s getting an anime adaptation”
actually, i was amazed that it got an anime. a series based on the premise that fights end in one punch? i would have put money down on everyone instantly turning that down.
i guess the art chops of
Murata Yuusuke are enough to win anyone over, eyeshield 21 was amazing in the later chapters.

that said, one punch man is possibly my favorite manga out, im super down for this.
