Hey, Assassin's Creed fans, May is a month to look forward to

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is Ubisoft’s darling. The most recent entry into the series, last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, has shipped 6.5 million copies worldwide since release. The game played an integral role in Ubisoft’s third financial quarter, helping the third biggest publisher to generate a €600 million turnover in three months.

Brotherhood was somewhat more than a filler title between Assassin’s Creed 2 and the upcoming third instalment in the franchise. Many have called it the best in the series; Nick loved it and so did I after finishing it this weekend. Needless to say, I’m really excited about where the series is going next, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. The good news is that May is right around the corner.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently told investors:

“We won’t give you full details but what we can say is that we will have an Assassin’s Creed also this year. But we are going to give you more details about the game in May.”

The ending to Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was a cliff-hanger to say the least. Where, or rather when, the next game will be set has been a topic of much speculation, but one possibility is during the last quarter of the 1700s, slap-bang in the middle of the American War of Independence. We might know the answer to this in about three months.

Guillemot also mentioned that his company would be continuing to cement their position as one of the world’s top publishers saying:

“Going forward, we intend to continue to innovate and pursue our refocus on key franchises in the high definition segment, while investing in upcoming opportunities in digital, in the casual segment and in future consoles, notably the 3DS and the NGP.”

With the NGP’s dual analogue sticks and powerful performance, a portable Assassin’s Creed title seems obvious. The PSP had Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines starring Altair, so let’s hope Ezio will get the same treatment on the NGP.
