Hey PC Gamers! You can’t have Ghost Recon Future Soldier either

We told you last week that Ubisoft had forsaken PC gamers, by skipping the PC as a release platform for their downloadable title, I am Alive. The biggest reason cited for not porting the game is, of course, piracy. Many of you were angered, with others not giving a hoot about some  worthless downloadable game.

Well, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, the latest in a series of games that was born on the PC won’t be headed to that platform either. Why not? Go on, guess!

Instead of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, PC gamers will instead be getting the free to play Ghost Recon Online. Here’s why:

"We are giving away most of the content for free because there’s no barrier to entry", Ubisoft’s Sébastien Arnoult told PC Gamer. "To the users that are traditionally playing the game by getting it through Pirate Bay, we said, ‘Okay, go ahead guys. This is what you’re asking for. We’ve listened to you – we’re giving you this experience. It’s easy to download, there’s no DRM that will pollute your experience.’"

So why not port over Future Soldier as well?

"When we started Ghost Recon Online we were thinking about Ghost Recon: Future Solider; having something ported in the classical way without any deep development, because we know that 95% of our consumers will pirate the game. So we said okay, we have to change our mind.

“We have to adapt, we have to embrace this instead of pushing it away. That’s the main reflection behind Ghost Recon Online and the choice we’ve made to go in this direction.”

So they changed their minds to not bringing the game to PC at all. Let me get this straight: They’re not going to bring Future Soldier, a game that’s already in development, to PC because people will end up downloading it for free – so they’re creating an entirely new game that they’re giving away for free instead. My mind, it hurts.
