Hitman’s getting the COD treatment

Silent Killer Agent 47 is back after a 5-year hiatus with Hitman: Absolution. It’s good to have him back; and his new game, depending on how you play, is pretty excellent. You could be seeing a lot more of him, because our hairless killer is getting the Call of Duty treatment.

Speaking to Official PlayStation magazine, Hitman: Absolution director Tore Blystad likened the future development of Hitman to Call of Duty’s two-developer cycle. the next Hitman game won’t be coming from IO Interactive, but rather from Square-Enix Montreal along with Eidos – who developed Deus Ex: human Revolution.

"It’s like with Treyarch and Infinity Ward," Blystad said  "You have an IP that has been developed. They will feed off each other, as well as [have] some things that stand out. I think with these big franchises it takes a long time to develop just one game. If you can, work a little bit in parallel at least and help each other out."

The new Hitman, destined for next-generation systems, will be the first time the series has been out of IO’s hands.

"There are talks between us and of course it has to be somewhat in sync," Blystad explained, "but it’s the first time you could say Hitman has gone out of the house. Luckily it’s with someone we know. Some of the key developers came from IO and have been working on previous games so it’s not like it’s in completely new hands."

This doesn’t mean they’ll be annualising the series, and you probably wont have any multiplayer Zombie DLC to contend with – but it does mean more Hitman. If they’re great games, I’m ok with that.
