Homefront: The Revolution strangely acknowledges troubled development in credits

Homefront The Revolution credits are an excuse of quality

I haven’t played Homefront: The Revolution. I wasn’t nearly a fan of the original game, and the continued issues that this reboot/sequel encountered made it clear long ago that it wasn’t going to be what it promised. And looking at reviews, that’s exactly what happened. Although it is strange for the game itself to actually acknowledge this – in the first part of the credits no les.

If you actually manage to bring yourself to finish Homefront, you’ll be greeted with an odd message before being treated to all the names that tried their best to make this into a game you should’ve enjoyed (and maybe you did). Before the names start rolling, the Game Director takes a moment to acknowledge just how troubled development was. The game swapped hands, changed owners and literally overcame every roadblock possible. In short, the game existing is a miracle of sorts.

Homefront The Revolution credits message

That’s also selling it a bit short too. Homefront’s original developers first closed down, after which the game was shifted around THQ and eventually landed up at Crytek UK. THQ then shut down, Deep Silver picked up publishing and everything was fine for a while. Soon after Crytek UK ran into massive financial issues, the Game Director left, Deep Silver bought up the IP and said Director re-joined. All that happened within four years, which is disruptive to say the least.

See it as an excuse or an honest admittance of failure, but it’s still strange. Not because we rarely see this in the games credits (usually retrospective takes months to arrive), but rather that an admittance like this is bundled in a game that is still costing you full price to play. That’s more down to publishing demands than development studios wanting to maybe scrap the idea entirely, but it’s still not enough to soften a blow like Homefront seems to be delivering.

We haven’t yet reviewed the game, but it’s telling when so many critics are saying the same things about it. Homefront is a bit of a mess, and even their development team knows it.

  1. Random… also doesn’t excuse the fact that the game is really bad (according to reviews)

    That’s a lot of hopping around in between different companies. No wonder the game suffered.

      Let us be honest Duke Forever pretty much laid the groundwork for that type of thing. They should have seen the writing on the wall.

    Yet it costs more than Uncharted 4 😉 Something is wrong with this bloated industry. Also, why was UFC 2 R300 more expensive than U4?

        Yes. No milk, and I read this. Even a reviewer would call this review NOT a review. Not even those reviewers who gave Batman a 4/10 did not give give a step by step account of the narrative, yet they got blasted.

          I am not disagreeing that it is bad. I had a premonition about this game because I knew the development hell it went through.

            Im just surprised how easy it is to claim yourself as a game reviewer after 7 years of thinking the staff at LG are GODS. 😛 After the WP review it looks like a 4 year old can do it and get onto Metacritic. WIN

            This is how I treat games.
            Blizzard = Win
            Bioware = Win

            Ubisoft = Nope (Division was a freak accident and the initial “fun” wore off)

            Everything else depends on trailers/gameplay.

            Oh and you know I’ll pre-order HL3 … cause.

            Eish, Bioware… not so sure. I have a gut feeling that the new Mass Effect is going to piss off all hardcore fans after their last statement of making it even more accessible to the casual market. It will make ME3 seem like a hardcore RPG.

            I dont trust EA. Why are they bragging about using PGAs crowed code for Mass Effect when they cant even react to a flying golf ball to the face.

            E3 is just around the corner so we will see some new things and even though the original ending for ME3 was terrible the series as a whole was outstanding and is my top rated game of all time. As long as they spin their story telling wheels like always I will be happy. Would love more RP in my RPG though.

          While I am avoiding reading reviews until I get to play Uncharted, I must say that this person seems to be making a statement of some sort. What exactly ? I don’t know. When something has universal acclaim and you stumble across a negative review, you have to ask whats up with the reviewer as he must have access to a standard that the rest of humanity are yet to uncover.

    Wow, that’s not good at all. Admittance of a poor product (for whatever reason) after the player has finished the game? “Uh, thanks for playing. We know it wasn’t as good as you thought it”d be, but I had this really bad rash on my ass while I was programming and it really really affected the outcome. Sorry guys. Yet sometimes you need to know when to throw in the towel. Blizzard did that with Titan and out of its ashes Overwatch was born and judging from my 100 hours playtime in the beta it is going to be a huge hit.

        I don’t get your response. The thank you stands as a gesture regardless of the outcome of the scenario. Hence me saying that saying thank you for something can be a good thing. Why bring up Blizzard ? Why the disdain for a developer that obviously worked hard to finish a game ? Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if I could apply it to my life, I would own a Island.

          Sure the thank you was nice but they had to have at least somewhere send this game to testers and got horrible feedback. No disdain for the devs just getting tired of devs bringing out imcomplete pieces of garbage at premium AAA prices. Was just using Blizzard as an example because they have dropped many games in the past that most likely would have been huge flops even after years of development. I have not played the game myself but so far all reviews/lets plays are calling this game terrible. I mean it is fairly universal.

          A “Thanks for buying our crappy game at premium pirce” will only get you so far. Now the next game they make (if they even get the chance) will be over scrutinized.

            Well with the R/$ exchange rate these days we don’t have the luxury of buying games on impulse/hype anymore.

            And knowing Zuma it will get waaaayyyyy worse before the end of the year.

            Yeah. I know. Having to cut costs drastically. It’s weird. I used to buy games at a whim and now I can barely afford to buy games at all. The last two years have been a serious change. The last 6 months have been dire.

    game is so glitchy, bug ridden and unfinished its kinda ridiculous. I actually enjoy the game somewhat for its creative aspects but they just released too soon (which seems hilarious b/c of how long it took to come out)..its difficult to enjoy b/c any little change of venue, cutscrene, shop screen etc its going to drop frame (everytime)..the AI is constantly blocking your path and trapping you, when you die you lose all resources (at least when I’ve died thats what happened at least), and multiplayer is so limited and boring its like a joke. If this game doesn’t die very quickly which some of these if they persist are deal breakers, then further on down the line it may be fun with a sh%t load of patches and updates..
