How Far Will You Go–Black Ops 3 test

1 min read

The Activision marketing machine has already started for Black Ops 3 which is a real surprise to me. Over the past 4 years you could almost predict to the day when new things about a Call of Duty game were going to be released but this year it’s so much more exciting as they have thrown out the marketing plan and appear to be winging it.

Now obviously that’s  garbage as this plan will be so meticulously crafted but the fact that it is so different than the previous games makes it interesting.

The latest piece of the marketing is an online personality test to see how far you would be willing to go to protect your loved ones and humanity, and what you would be willing to sacrifice to improve yourself.

Take The Test

I personally ended up on the top end of the Neutral band where I wasn’t willing to lose everything that makes me who I am to be better but I’d love to rip my eyeballs out and breathe underwater. So take the test and let us know in the comments below if you believe humanity is perfect just the way your imaginary friend (or not) made us or if we need to improve ourselves to be all we can be.

Hmm I’m barely to the right of neutral. Guess I should’ve given more of a damn about those 10k, 1k, 100, 10 & 1 people.

Besides CoD once again blatantly steals an idea and uses marketing tactics to trick the sheeple in believing they came up with it, this is actually a very good question asked in games/scifi

What will you sacrifice? We all see the protag and how badass he/she is after augmentation/enhancement, but there are countless other cases where disfigurement, permanent disability, dependancy, abuse etc is quite horrible.

Let’s take an example, a kid loses his leg in horrible accident, he gets a prosthesis, do you agree that his/her quality of life has improved? What about someone willfully removing his natural organs to run/see etc better just because he has the money?

There are so many discussion points on this, and I find it a very fascinating subject. Pro-human vs Pro-aug? Rich vs poor? Where do you sacrifice your humanity and where do you willfully trade it away? Are you still human, or more than human? Will you abuse this power, or use it for good?

In gaming, I agree. But in real life, if it enhances someone’s life after a disability (being able to walk/see/use arms) I can see the effect.

But in real life, willfully allowing yourself to be enhanced for war/crime/etc I find to disagree with.

We are all humans, a squishy ball of cellular goo covered in what we call a skin, when we start changing the bits contained in the skin, like pacemakers, kidneys or the like, we usually replace them with the “hard but not as efficient” bits that we manage to build with our primitive understanding of how the human brain interacts with the correct pieces of the puzzle, in short, we as humans still have a long way to go before we could make someone’s life better by replacing a limb or even a tooth, currently, we are only providing them with the basic necessities….

Humanity is in the mind and soul.
The body is just the container that houses it.
How each person chooses to treat their container is up to them.

I’m sure the majority would abuse it but then there are those who would choose to attempt to use those powers to become comic-book-style heroes.
Which brings up an interesting thought, how do you define what is abuse of your power?

I’d be willing to sacrifice my lungs if I could breathe underwater or risk paralysis to run faster but sacrificing my eyes to see 5 times farther?
I’m short-sighted and can only see about 1 ~ 2 metres clearly without glasses so getting to see 5 ~ 10 metres clearly just doesn’t appeal.

And don’t even get me started on the control that WILL be enforced on these “enhancements”.

Someone will find a way to DLC that sucker.

But how you treat your container can effect your mind and soul. Drug abuse or physical exercise has two different effects on both. Who knows what augmentations would do. In the short term it seems like a good idea but I think there could be a danger of getting detached from your human side. Felt deep before I typed it and I’m lazy to delete it.

I think your mind is what makes you, you. Chuck your mind into a robot body & if you still think of yourself as human, then you are. If you don’t then you’re something else and Facebook will have to add a whole bunch of new categories for you define yourself.

What someone else thinks of that is a different story.

True, but the mind is open to outside factors and emotions. Being in a tin can my lead to extreme depression if you’re never able to feel the touch of a women again for instance.

          • Pariah

            May 12, 2015 at 12:08

Depression, and all emotion, is caused by hormone changes in your body. With a robot body, you would, literally, lose all ability to feel.

          • Matthew Holliday

            May 12, 2015 at 12:33

you COULD lose the ability to feel.
or you could limit or control the secretion of those hormones etc at will, to perform at an optimal capacity.
control how much you feel depending on the circumstances.

seeing as we’re talking theoreticals, a robot body could replicate the effects of those hormones. if we assume that you are your brain + whatever stimuli are present in your body, then your brain + control of that stimuli could be pretty usefull.

            May 12, 2015 at 13:40

The answer: “Let’s be honest, I was never going to feel the touch of a woman anyway so it’s not like I’m missing out on anything.”

I have the same problem when the protagonist suddenly discovers that they are adopted.

    So apparently ”

    You’d stop at nothing

Everything you do, you do to become better. No matter what the cost. You’re not in it for glory or for the greater good. The ones like you are the ones who push humanity further.”

You Are In the Middle Ground

YOU’RE FOOLING YOURSELf. You’re not sure where you stand. And that’s a
dangerous game. Because when it comes to choices, nobody can be
    neutral. Indecision eliminates progress. Commit.

Make this a permanent death game and watch everyone mod themselves to the extreme. Do the test as a human, then do the test as a soldier fighting on the front lines… Totally different story… You might not want to mod yourself, but when the enemy has done so, you step up or die.

Took the test for curiosity… Nailed it right in the neutral. But then again this is what they tell me:
YOU’RE FOOLING YOURSELf. You’re not sure where you stand. And that’s a dangerous game. Because when it comes to choices, nobody can be neutral. Indecision eliminates progress. Commit.
