As we all know, The Last of Us is headed to the PlayStation 4. It really does look like this generation has replaced “HD Remakes” with “Remastered Versions,” but I digress; Last year’s near unanimous Game of the Year is getting a new bit of spit and polish, and heading to Sony’s newest console. How are they planning on making one of the best looking games in recent memory look even better?
According to Community Strategist at Naughty Dog, Arne Meyer the PlayStation 4 version is getting more than just a resolution upgrade.
“Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements,” he said on the PS Blog.
According to the comments on the blog, and a Tweet from Neil Druckmann the team is targeting 60fps for the remaster.

The new version of the game will also host lengthy director’s commentary, featuring insight from Creative Director and Writer, Neil Druckmann; Voice Actor as well as Joel’s voice actor Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.
As expected, the game’s current DLC will be included in the package, along with a little extra.
- Left Behind single player expansion
- Abandoned Territories multiplayer map pack
- Reclaimed Territories pack – details will be coming soon on exactly what is included in that.
No word of when exactly it’ll be out, but it says Summer 2014, so expect it around June. According to Naughty dog, they’ve been working on the PS4 version since development of the game wrapped up.
“The graphic fidelity has been turned up to eleven,” Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells said of the remaster, adding “we’ve got 1080p, we’re pushing the draw distances further, we’re creating higher resolution character models, better lighting, better shadows.”

I bought the PS3 version, but I could never play it, as my PS3 was playing up and the game was so jerky that after 20minutes I gave up. So I’ll be ecstatic to get this on my PS4.

Just to add…. I would be over the moon, if Sony (or Ster Kinekor SA), give me refund on my PS3 version, or to make up for it, give me a copy of the PS4 version when it comes out… Just seems fair….
