I Blame the internet for the PS3's bad sales

Dave Karraker is the PR guy for Sony America so I think everyone can feel sorry for him as he must have the hardest job in the gaming industry at the moment.

However sympathy only goes so far… When asked why the PS3 is not getting the consumers excited he has the following…

I think a lot of this goes back to the proliferation of the Internet, where a very vocal minority can make a lot of noise and potentially alter perceptions of the masses, whether they are accurate or not. A lot of this, naturally, is driven by the media who seem focused on taking swipes at us lately

So in normal speak… There are just to many people out there and not all of them are falling for our marketing hype… Maybe they didn’t want to work extra hours or get a second job Dave…

Hint for the future, don’t complain about the internet in an interview that is being published on the internet about a piece of hardware that is meant to be used to connect to the internet.

Karraker has also said that “true gamers want the PS3”, which I thought was a rather laughable way of spinning your product – the same product that “is not a gaming console” according to Sony.

True gamers don’t want a console that can sing, dance and make tea while downloading the new Harry Potter – true gamers want a console that can play frakking games.

I think Sony needs to fire all their PR people already.

sounds more like, ‘the dog at my lunch’,

basically he attributes the low sales to the fact that he cannot control the medium. should he not rather use the medium to communicate the correct message to the millions of potential ps3 buyers?

lol I am not sure we would win a court case, he has a point. The internet has spread all the details about the PS3 around, good and bad…

If he they just lowered the price instead of increasing it sales would pick up I am sure 🙂

heh heh. I’ve got nothing to add, you can’t fit more than two of your own feet in your mouth. Lazy, your final paragraph beautifully summarizes the way I feel 😀
