Xboxone

Right now, the Xbox One doesn’t seem to have the most diverse selection of games. Don’t get me wrong, the games that are available are great, and I’ve found myself using the ol’ Xbox One more than the PlayStation 4 of late. The perception though, is that the Xbox One (and indeed the whole Xbox brand) is for bros, with games that appeal to teenage boys and their burgeoning machismo; sports games, shooters, driving games, more sports games, and even more shooters.

The truth is that the Xbox One is home to a wide range of games and experiences. So much so, that Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg believes that if you’re buying a console just for games, chances are you’re buying an Xbox One. Speaking to Venture Beat, Greenberg explained how the Xbox One was primed and ready to “win” the holiday sales period.

“If you’re buying a console for games, you’re buying an Xbox,” Greenberg exclaims. “Xbox is the platform with the most games, the most exclusives, and probably the most anticipated game of the year in Halo 5. If you’re a fan of Halo, if you’ve ever played Halo, you know how special Halo 5 is. If you never have, the rich story with Locke and Chief and what’s been created — I can tell you, I’ve played through the entire campaign. It’s the greatest Halo ever made. It’s stunning. It’s worth the investment. That game alone is worth the investment.”

Plus, if you like Forza or Tomb Raider or any of the other big titles like Fallout or Call of Duty, we have them all. On top of having the premier online gaming service in Xbox Live. If you want to play with your friends, that’s the place to play. “

While that’s not something that’s demonstrably true, according to Newzoo more people are buying games published by Microsoft than they are ones published by Sony. As a publisher, Microsoft’s seen a 6% year-on-year growth, and is now the second highest earning game software publisher. Sony, last year’s number one, is now in third, with Chinese megacorporation Tencent in at first.

I do have to chuckle about Greenberg’s line about the Xbox One being for games, when the console’s initial reveal focused on everything but. The Xbox one was designed to take over the living room and be the central hub from which all entertainment happened – but it’s an ethos that’s changed in part from the poor reception to it, and Phil Spencer’s turn as head of the Xbox Division.

As for diversity in games? While it’s probably true that the Xbox doesn’t have the most diverse line-up, that is possibly changing. 2016 looks like a great year for Xbox, with games like Platinum’s Scalebound, a more horror-focused Gears of War 4, Rare’s Sea of Thieves, ReCore and Cuphead coming to add a little spice to the system’s library.

Although the Xbone does have a few games here and there that interest me, it’s ultimately the 2016 JRPG lineups that have me super excited to get my hands on a PS4 come Christmas time 😛

Not really.. As a owner of both consoles.. I cant tell the difference between the PS4 media player and the Xbox one’s when it comes to media formats (both play most supported formats just fine). Plus the PS4 actually shows pictures of the movies or TV shows when you use UPnP.. Which is nice.. The Xbox one just has these big blank blocks…

They’re really pushing Halo 5 as the lead console title for XO. Too bad they left out the split screen. People are pissing all over Metacritic about the exclusion and they even started a petition. Angry Joe even gave it a 6/10 O_o

MS don’t want people to do split screen, they want you to get ANOTHER XB1 to play coop. It’s a money making thing.

Anyways I’m loving Halo5 and not having split screen actually makes me kinda happy then I don’t have to share the screen(cause it’s small)

I’m admittedly a really big Halo fan (played ’em all, got the MasterChief collection, etc.)… But even I am waiting before dipping into the Halo 5 pool… It wasn’t a Day 1 purchase and I don’t see myself getting it this year (or anytime soon, for that matter).

It just sounds, really, disappointing… Rather wait till it’s cheap to get. And I bet I’m not the only one thinking that.

i played the story mode a I’ve played a lot multiplayer so ill tell you how it is. The story was good. It wasn’t incredible but certainly not bad. The multiplayer is extremely good. Maybe even the best. The only bad parts of the game are the micro transactions and the lack of split screen.

Reading that Halo 5 is getting mixed reviews thanks to its short campaign and next to no MC… Bad times, I was half expecting Halo 5 to move consoles like Halo 3 did for the 360 back in the day.

Well, my theory on advertising and marketing is if you say something close to the truth or something that WILL BE true later enough times, it can become a true thing in the minds of the people. If you say something enough times that is far from the truth or even the common wisdom perceived truth, then, well. Then. Propaganda minister?

Internet has certainly shown us that.

So did you manage to play Halo 5 yet? You an online player or more a single player? You do know that Fallout and COD will be on the PS4 as well? Also Tomb Raider will eventually also be on the PS4. So you are left with Halo and Forza. That is very diverse indeed.

I do play online most of the time yes(loved all the Battlefield’s up until Hardline) . Have not picked up Halo 5 yet sadly, but will get it and ROTTR this month still for sure! Will get Fallout much later with all the DLC. Will not touch COD sorry(or Battlefront which I’ll grab later from the Vault)! Enjoying World Of Tanks & Fifa 16(especially FUT) now and went back to Project Spark since they dropped micro transactions! Really looking forward to Fable Legends too! With Backwards Compatibility and 4 free monthly games and whatever the Vault might add my gaming catalogue will be too large to quibble about Indies on the pS4. There’s also a lot more exclusives coming to Xbox One, you really should go check it out!????
