The Immortals, who have received some bad press lately, are picking up the pieces with an announcement of their first ever Dota 2 lineup. The North American based organization has picked up South Korean Team Phoenix, who competed at The Dota 2 International 6 as MVP Phoenix, a well known brand within South Korea. The team will join the Immortals for the remainder of 2017, and the kick off of the 2017-2018 competitive season which starts in little over a month.

The roster is as follows:

  • Kim “QO” Seon-yeob,
  • Pyo “MP” No-a,
  • Lee “Forev” Sang-don
  • Kim “Febby” Yong-min
  • Kim “DuBu” Doo-y

While MVP Phoenix did not compete at TI7, all player did compete under other organizations. Qo and Febby played under Fnatic, Forev and Dubu played for Digital Chaos, and finally MP competed alongside Team Secret. The three separate teams did not feature in the top three, but the squads reuniting could leave a chance for them to rise to former glory as they did during the 2016 season.

MVP Phoenix disbanded after their run at TI6 but reformed as Team Phoenix earlier this month. Noah Whinston, CEO of Immortals, announce the signing of the team in a press release.

“At Immortals, we’ve made no secret of our desire, under the right set of conditions, to enter Dota 2,” said Whinston. “We look forward to the challenge of continuing to raise the bar for content and fan engagement in Dota and to furthering our mission, across all titles, of uniting fans and players, and bringing the esports community closer than it has ever been to the games it loves.”

The Immortals surfaced as an organization in 2015 fielding strong League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch teams. As mentioned in their press release, they’d been waiting for the perfect time to join the “race for the Aegis” and it seems Team Phoenix may be their answer.
